Required Skills & Environment

• Attention to Detail: A strong eye for detail and color is crucial to ensure high-quality, accurate prints.
• Mechanical Aptitude: The ability to troubleshoot, make minor repairs, and work with hand tools is necessary for maintaining machine efficiency.
• Physical Stamina: The role often requires standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects (up to 50-75 lbs), and performing repetitive motions.
• Work Environment: The job is typically in a factory setting, which may involve exposure to industrial noise, chemicals, and hazardous equipment, necessitating adherence to strict safety protocols.
• Teamwork: Operators must collaborate with prepress teams, mechanics, and other operators, sometimes leading or training crew members. 

A poly printing operator's responsibilities include setting up and operating printing machines to print designs on plastic materials, ensuring quality control, performing routine maintenance, and complying with safety protocols. 

Core Responsibilities

• Machine Operation & Setup: Read and interpret job orders to determine specifications, such as ink color, quantity, and specific instructions. Set up the press by installing print cylinders/plates, loading plastic film rolls, and adjusting speed, alignment, tension, and pressure settings.
• Quality Control: Monitor the print run to inspect random samples for defects like wrinkles, tears, smeared printing, uneven color, and registration issues. Make necessary adjustments during the run to maintain quality standards and minimize waste.
• Ink Management: Pour inks into pans, blend or mix colored inks to achieve the required color matches, and manage ink viscosity.
• Maintenance & Cleaning: Perform routine maintenance tasks on the equipment, including cleaning and lubricating the machine and its components. Troubleshoot and resolve minor issues or malfunctions, and report major problems to the supervisor or mechanics.
• Documentation & Safety: Complete all required paperwork, logs, and forms accurately to record production data, material usage, and quality checks. Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including proper handling of chemicals and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
