Educational Requirements:
∎ A Ph.D in Nutrition/Food Science/Physiology/Biology/Biochemistry/Clinical biochemistry or M.S degree with 10 years of experience in relevant field. Length of experiences may be relaxed for the candidates who have experiences in conducting field based studies involving biochemical status assessment or nutrition biomarker research.

Job Context:
∎ JiVitA, a maternal and child health and nutrition research project of Johns Hopkins University in Bangladesh (JHUB), operating in Gaibandha District with its project head quarter (PHQ) in Rangpur City and registered with the Government of Bangladesh NGO Affairs Bureau, is seeking qualified applicants Nutritional Scientist position.
∎ JiVitA has been working to understand the micronutrient dose-response among women of reproductive age and pregnant women in rural Bangladesh (the MiNDR Study). The position holder will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing field and lab related activities of above-mentioned project with the objective of conducting high-quality research within the research protocol, organizational values, and guidelines.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Project Implementation and Management:
∎ Understand the research protocol and study design; operationalize the protocol for field implementation; work on field implementation and SoP of biospecimen (blood, urine and stool) collection and lab methodologies (such as CBC analysis and other point-of-care assays and instrumentation, eg. Piccolo Express).
∎ Train field staff and volunteers on intervention delivery and data collection methods specific to the project; documentation and process monitoring, provide instruction and guidance to field staff during implementation including field supervision and visits; monitoring of the intervention and fidelity assessment. Identify and solve any problems during implementation and report findings to the Director and Science Officer.
∎ Attend cross-functional JiVitA organization meetings to contribute to the design and development of forms and procedures; provide technical inputs; provide the status of deliverables and project timelines.
∎ Coordinate with admin team for procurement of project supplies; coordinate with NGOs, GoB, and collaborators for deployment of resources to field sites to support project execution and setting field offices for implementation of the project.
∎ Oversee location and movement of biological samples to other labs for further analysis and oversee the timing and processes for transport of samples to collaborators in Bangladesh.
∎ Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
∎ Perform in-house maintenance and calibration and carry out minor trouble shooting of laboratory equipment system and instrumentation such as point-of-care instruments (Piccolo Express, flow cytometer), Hemocues, centrifuges, and cold storage (refrigerators/freezers).
∎ Maintain equipment maintenance records; validate maintenances performed by junior staffs; provide input for development of equipment maintenance plan and monitor for execution.
∎ Prepare requisition for stock/non-stock laboratory reagent and consumable; maintain electronic inventory for laboratory samples, supplies, track consumptions and prepare reports.
∎ Quality Assurance:
∎ Monitor the output from the point-of-care assays for quality and indications of metabolic dysfunction.
∎ Check adherence to quality assurance processes from collection to reception by the laboratory and adherence to quality guidelines in laboratory test processes and results. Conduct exploratory analysis of the data as needed to assess distributions and to check for outliers and QC. Prepare reports and share with relevant science team and investigators
∎ Scientific Analysis and Knowledge Creation:
∎ Assist in guiding biochemical data analysis, interpretation of nutritional status based on biochemical indicators, and draw conclusions from statistical models and analysis.
∎ Perform as a first/co-author of manuscripts and abstracts; organizing and facilitating stakeholders meeting; provide inputs to supervisor for creating presentations to contribute to the creation and dissemination of knowledge.
∎ People Management:
∎ Work well in a team and be motivated to independently pursue and drive the project. Coordinate daily with field staff to receive samples from the field in timely manner; guide and supervise team members (technicians, or other personnel in the field/lab) on completion of tasks, activities, and reports; provide feedback to supervisor on team members' performance.
∎ Encourage team members to collaborate across areas; address and resolve any diversity related issues; recommend appropriate actions to build and develop an engaged and high performing team.
∎ Engage routinely with our partners/collaborators on laboratory analysis and hold meetings to monitor progress and track deliverables.

Additional Requirements:
∎ Age at least 27 years
∎ Professional knowledge of human nutrition, food composition, experience with currently
∎ accepted research methods for dietary intake analysis (including food frequency questionnaires, food records and 24-h dietary recall analysis) as well as some knowledge of newer, developing methods of dietary intake analysis such as those using personal electronic devices
∎ Previous experience with at least some of these laboratory techniques (ELISA, PCR, HPLC, ICP/MS, LC/MSMS, RIA, 16s amplicon sequencing).
∎ Human biological sample processing experience, knowledge of different chemicals and reagents, as well as biohazards, bio-ethics, bio-security and bio-safety requirements, IT Systems and standard Applications.
∎ Skills and experience of developing and coordinating complex study protocols; excellent laboratory skills and experience including sample handling, pipetting, safety, and quality control.
∎ Strong technical writing skill. Applicants having proven track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals are preferred.
∎ knowledge of epidemiologic methods related to the design, implementation, and analysis of data from community or clinical research with human volunteers is desirable.
∎ Effective knowledge and skills about cold chain maintenance system, shipment procedures and documentation.
∎ The ability to collaborate with counterparts at various organizational levels.
∎ Strong organizational qualities required to perform in a fast paced, demanding work environment.
∎ Strong interpersonal communication, the ability to work amicably with coworkers in all kinds of situations.
