Responsibilities & Context:

Job Purpose

The Group Head of Electrical Engineering is responsible for providing strategic leadership, technical governance, and operational oversight of electrical engineering functions across all units within the group. This role ensures standardization, quality, compliance, and innovation across multiple business units, while driving efficiency, safety, and engineering excellence.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement group-wide electrical engineering strategies, standards, and policies.

  • Align engineering objectives with corporate goals and long-term business plans.

  • Drive innovation, digitalization, and adoption of modern electrical technologies across the group.

 

2. Technical Leadership & Governance

  • Oversee and support all electrical engineering operations across subsidiary companies.

  • Approve major designs, technical specifications, drawings, and engineering decisions.

  • Conduct technical reviews, audits, and risk assessments to ensure compliance and quality.

 

3. Project Oversight

  • Monitor major electrical projects across the group to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.

  • Provide expert guidance on complex engineering challenges and critical infrastructure issues.

  • Coordinate resource allocation, ensuring subsidiaries have the technical capacity needed.

 

4. Compliance, Safety & Quality Control

  • Ensure all units adhere to applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations (IEC, NEC, IEEE, local regulations).

  • Implement group-wide quality assurance programs for installations, maintenance, and design work.

  • Lead root-cause analysis and enforce corrective actions for technical or safety incidents.

 

5. Resource & People Management

  • Develop electrical engineering leaders and teams across all subsidiary companies.

  • Support workforce planning, recruitment, and training to build group-wide technical capability.

  • Promote knowledge sharing, mentorship, and cross-company collaboration.

 

6. Financial & Asset Management

  • Manage group-level budgets related to electrical engineering, CAPEX planning, and major equipment purchases.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through standardization, consolidation, and bulk procurement.

  • Conduct ROI evaluations for new technology and infrastructure investments.

 

7. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with operations, mechanical engineering, projects, procurement, HSE, finance, and executive leadership.

  • Provide technical support for bids, proposals, and business development efforts.

  • Serve as the point of contact for regulatory bodies and key external stakeholders.

 

8. Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare and present engineering performance reports to executive leadership.

  • Maintain group engineering standards, manuals, and documentation.

  • Track KPIs, project progress, and compliance metrics across the group.

 

2. Skills and Qualifications List

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSc/BE).

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Management, or related field (preferred).

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer, or equivalent certification (preferred).

  • Minimum 12–15 years of electrical engineering experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.

  • Experience managing engineering functions for multiple business units or a group of companies.

 

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of industrial power systems, LV/MV/HV systems, protection, automation, control systems.

  • Expertise in electrical codes and standards (IEC, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, etc.).

  • Proficiency with engineering design tools (AutoCAD, ETAP, EPLAN, MATLAB, Revit MEP, etc.).

  • Experience with renewable energy, energy efficiency, smart systems, or automation (advantageous).

  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies.

  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and team-building abilities.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • High level of organization, planning, and decision-making capability.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects across diverse business units.

A. Strategic & Operational KPIs

  • Percentage alignment of subsidiaries with group engineering standards.

  • Project on-time delivery rate (%) across all units.

  • Reduction in engineering-related downtime or failures.

  • Percentage implementation of group-wide engineering initiatives.

 

B. Quality & Safety KPIs

  • Compliance rate with international and local electrical codes.

  • Number of electrical incidents, near misses, or safety violations.

  • Audit scores from internal and external technical evaluations.

  • System reliability and failure rate (MTTR/MTBF metrics).

 

C. Financial KPIs

  • CAPEX and OPEX variance against budget.

  • Cost savings achieved through standardization or procurement consolidation.

  • ROI of new technologies or major engineering investments.

 

D. People & Development KPIs

  • Training hours or competency improvements across engineering teams.

  • Retention rate of engineering talent across subsidiaries.

  • Number of cross-company engineering collaborations or knowledge-sharing initiatives.

 

E. Innovation KPIs

  • Number of technology improvements or process enhancements implemented.

  • Reduction in energy consumption or operational inefficiencies.

  • Adoption rate of digital tools or automation solutions.
