∎ The Leadership to Ensure Adequate Nutrition (LEAN) project aims to improve maternal and child nutrition in the remote Chittagong Hill Tracts of Southeastern Bangladesh through a consortium of six partners led by United Purpose (UP). The project aims to break the perpetual cycle of under nutrition in 18 selected Upazilas under the Districts of Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachari in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. The project funded by the European Commission (EC) will work to improve maternal and child nutrition for 282,000 pregnant and lactating women, children under 5 and adolescent girls by providing holistic, nutrition-sensitive and nutrition-specific livelihoods models to diversify diets and income for the most vulnerable whilst working with local, district and national government to promote nutrition-sensitive governance at all levels. The specific objective of the Project is "to create an enabling environment for improved and sustained pro-poor nutrition security service delivery and awareness will address the institutional determinants of under nutrition in the CHT which include the political and policy framework for nutrition, and the coordination and service delivery structures". The consortium of partners is led by United Purpose (UP) and consists of technical partners HELVETAS Swiss Interco operation (HELVETAS) and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), as well as three implementing partners Caritas Bangladesh (CB), Integrated Development Foundation (IDF), and Jum Foundation (Jum).
Job Responsibilities:
∎ The duties and responsibilities of the Facilitator- Nutrition and WASH are as follows:
∎ About the Role:
∎ Facilitation of nutrition and WASH related activities in the designated area. Will engage and coordinate local people for the implementation of nutrition and WASH issues. The Facilitator will report to the Upazila Coordinator.
∎ Key Duties and Responsibilities:
∎ The Facilitator (Nutrition and WASH) is assigned to facilitate program implementation and coordination of all field activities at his/her allocated Upazila and union regarding Nutrition issues. The Facilitator (Nutrition and WASH) will work under the overall guidance of the Project Manager and direct supervision of Upazilla Coordinator, IDF.. The duties and responsibilities are as follows:
∎ OVERALL PURPOSE:
∎ Carry out field level activities to successfully implement the LEAN nutrition governance project
∎ Overall coordination at the community level to ensure smooth delivery of project activities in accordance with donor requirements and guidelines.
∎ Maintain coordination and communication in terms of project operation, assist the Upazila Coordinator to monitor project progress, quality and share learning.
∎ Ensure that the project follows relevant compliance, statutory rules and regulations, standards and IDF Policies.
∎ Carry out advocacy efforts representation both the project and organization at community level nutrition and WASH related events, workshops and conferences.
∎ Tasks and Responsibilities:
∎ Facilitate capacity building on nutrition sensitive programming of all UP chairman; Health & Family Planning, welfare of women, social welfare & sanitation standing committee members; disaster committee; CSG; Headman; Karbari.
∎ Contribute in development of local radio messaging in local Chittagonian dialects
∎ Provide support to local artists, folk singers and theatre groups to promote nutrition and WASH messaging in community events.
∎ Participate in international day (World Health Day, World Food Day, Hand Washing Day, Menstruation Day, National Immunization Day and week , month (Breast Feeding ) observations through fairs and community events
∎ Promote Tippy Tap (Low cost hand washing device) at community and schools.
∎ Promote school based awareness, school garden campaigns and innovation solutions from school children to integrate nutrition sensitive interventions
∎ Sensitize and make aware Primary Teacher Training Institute staff on inclusion of nutrition and WASH in Little Doctor scheme
∎ Orient School Management Committee on nutrition.
∎ Promote Blue School Concept (Environment Friendly school - gardening, fruit tree planting with WASH and Hygiene Behavior)
∎ Develop student Brigade on nutrition by the students
∎ Arranging Essay writing competition and school debate on nutrition and health.
∎ Support adolescent clubs with a focus on girls and nominate nutrition champions from communities and Hill District Councils to lead nutrition sensitive activities;
∎ Identify, reactivate and train existing adolescent clubs on nutrition and gardening and sanitation at the Upazila and union level.
∎ Demonstration on gardening for clubs with private sector engagement
∎ Demonstration local and indigenous cooking and diet diversity for clubs/community people
∎ Identify and train nutrition champions from Hill District Councils/ local elite/ CSOs
∎ Identify and train women entrepreneurs to establish WBCs
∎ Strengthen Famer Information and Advice Centers and Union Digital Centers
∎ Mobilize Public Private Initiative (PPI) Platform and address issues to promote nutrition sensitive value chain
∎ Sensitize district level public and private stakeholders on importance and organization of PPI Platform at upazila and union level.
∎ Support PPI platform to implement the plan and strategies to address issues in nutrition value chains
∎ Any additional tasks assigned by the Supervisor that may be within the scope of the position to ensure the effective delivery and development of the project
Additional Requirements:
∎ At least 03 years' practical work experience with NGO/INGO with vulnerable communities in the field of water/sanitation, WASH, hygiene or public health.
∎ Familiarity with key health and hygiene issues and relevant hygiene promotion/education activities in host communities.
∎ Proven experience in community mobilization, training and /or teaching.
∎ Greater understanding of age, gender and diversity issues with regard to WASH.
∎ Knowledge of minimum WASH standards (e.g. Sphere).
∎ Proficiency in using computer software e. g MS office and internet.
∎ Communication skills in both verbal and written English and Bangla. And with knowledge of local language of host communities is an advantage.
