Community Development Centre (CODEC) is going to implement the Contingency Partnership to Respond to Emergencies in Chattogram Division, funded by UNICEF Bangladesh; which will assist affected populations in Chittagong, Comilla, Feni, Lakshmipur and Noakhali districts., Covering health, nutrition, WASH, child protection, education, and social behavior change.
The project targets over 600,000 individuals, focusing on pregnant women, children, and vulnerable groups. Key activities include medical camps, nutritional support, safe water and sanitation facilities, child protection, and educational continuity, all integrated with capacity development.
Duration - 5.5 months.
Job Summary:
The Emergency Nutrition Facilitator is responsible for implementing the Pushti Nutrition Package in selected Upazilas, aimed at preventing malnutrition and improving the nutritional status of children under five, adolescent girls, and pregnant and lactating women. The role involves conducting domiciliary visits, facilitating community-based nutrition education, providing counseling, and supporting the referral and treatment of malnourished children through established mechanisms.
Key Responsibilities:
Implementation of the Pushti Nutrition Package:
Implement the community-based Pushti nutrition interventions, including the identification and referral of malnourished children, in collaboration with local health facilities.
Facilitate domiciliary visits in selected Upazilas to identify children aged 6-11 months for SQ-LNS (Small Quantity Lipid-based Nutrient Supplements) distribution and conduct follow-ups to ensure their effective use.
Provide nutritional care for at-risk newborns, including Kangaroo Mother Care and follow-up counseling to caregivers.
Community-Based Nutrition Education & Counseling:
Conduct individual and group counseling sessions on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices, focusing on improving caregivers’ knowledge and promoting healthy feeding behaviors for young children.
Facilitate Early Childhood Development (ECD) counseling for children aged 0-3 years, supporting caregivers with age-appropriate materials and guidance to enhance early stimulation and responsive caregiving.
Integrate Social and Behavior Change (SBC) interventions to encourage malnutrition prevention behaviors and community-based screening for malnutrition.
Referral & Coordination:
Work with Community Nutrition Volunteers to screen for Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) using the Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tape and ensure proper referrals to Upazila Health Complexes for treatment.
Support the development of a robust referral mechanism linking community-level nutrition services with health facilities.
Collaborate with health facilities, local authorities, and community leaders to ensure the successful implementation of the Pushti package and access to essential services.
Monitoring & Reporting:
Monitor and report nutrition outcomes, including the number of children and caregivers reached, the effectiveness of the Pushti package, and the success of referral mechanisms.
Provide timely and accurate updates to the Nutrition Officer and Project Coordinator, documenting progress, challenges, and lessons learned.
Promotion of Social Safety Nets:
Promote the utilization of basic social services, such as social safety nets and social cash transfers, for the poorest households affected by acute malnutrition.
Advocate for and support the integration of nutrition-sensitive interventions within existing social protection programs for vulnerable populations.
PSEA Policy-
S/he should abide by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC)`s six core principles on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy. Ensure the safety of team members (in respect to Prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse - PSEA) from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the program`s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
Contingent Task Assignments:
The Project Head may assign additional tasks based on the demands of the emergency situation and program requirements.
