• Essential Literacy and Valid Heavy Duty (Professional) Driving License. Good knowledge of country roads

• Essential 5 years minimum of previous driving experience as truck or bus driver

• Essential experience with manual gear box

• Desirable in MSF or other NGOs

• English and Bangla language essential, Chittagongian Dialect Desirable

• Desirable knowledge of basic mechanics

• Good knowledge of Chattogram district and city area roads

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

Always wear the ID card visibly while driving and use proper closed shoes; sandals are not allowed. Keep the line manager/MMO regularly updated about road conditions and maintain accurate records in the logbook including mileage, fuel receipts, servicing, repairs, and accidents.

Perform daily and weekly vehicle checks to ensure the vehicle is in good working order before journeys. Keep the vehicle clean (both internal and external) and ensure the engine and chassis are regularly maintained.

Assist passengers as needed: help open doors, brief them on vehicle rules and safety, assist nurses and patient coordinators with stretchers during referrals, and ensure all passengers fasten seat belts.

Follow driver responsibilities including vehicle maintenance schedules, communication points, maps, and legal requirements (license and vehicle documents). Safeguard the vehicle from risks such as accidents, theft, and ensure safe parking, especially at night or on holidays.

Drive safely and within speed limits, adjusting for road, weather, and vehicle conditions. The driver may exceed speed limits by 10-15 km/h only for overtaking, as per guidelines.

Ensure proper loading and unloading, avoid overloading, and disinfect the vehicle after each trip. Only MSF drivers or mission-approved personnel may operate the vehicle. Unauthorized driving must be reported to the head of drivers.

Verify approval from the technical logistic manager/fleet supervisor before carrying personnel or goods. Prohibit arms holders, uniformed personnel, and police from entering MSF vehicles. Ensure non-MSF passengers sign responsibility disclaimers.

Securely preserve and protect all carried goods inside the vehicle. Avoid carrying passengers in the back of trucks or open pickups except in emergencies and only with proper authorization.

Comply with mission security rules when crossing restricted roads, customs, or checkpoints. Report all security-related incidents promptly to the movement monitoring officer or head of drivers.

Smoking is strictly prohibited in vehicles and around inflammable cargo. Ensure all passengers comply with this rule.

Maintain close proximity to base when outside to ensure vehicle safety and security.

Reporting

Immediately report any accidents, damage, technical faults, or security incidents to the supervisor. Report any important information observed on the road or received via radio directly to the supervisor.

Professional Driver Skills

Assist with MSF standard vehicle tools and procedures under supervision, including completing logbooks and performing regular vehicle checks. Support basic vehicle maintenance tasks (Service “A” and “B”) and demonstrate knowledge of mechanical spare parts.

Manage fuel storage and refueling responsibly, following MSF’s safety and operational guidelines under supervision.

Drive according to MSF safety standards and local driving regulations with supervision.

Support use of telecommunications tools including mobile phones, radios, and satellite phones to maintain effective communication during missions.

Apply MSF safety principles and procedures, including implementing safety plans for accidents and challenges such as difficult roads or checkpoints, with guidance and oversight.

• Permanent Contract. Salary according to level Three (3) of the internal MSF salary grid (BDT 39000). Salary is not negotiable. Income tax deduction from salary based on current income tax rule. 2 annual leave days per month worked. Medical insurance for employee and direct dependents based on Health Care Policy- Locally Recruited Staff.

• There is no provisions for relocation. 2 Festival Bonuses after completion of one year of uninterrupted continuous service.
