Education:

Diploma in Agriculture/ Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Rural Development, Food Security, Development Studies, Agricultural Economics, or related discipline from any UGC approved reputed university or institute

COMPETENCIES: Facilitating group meetings, stockholder managing, storage management, oral and written fluency in both Bangla and English, handling critical issues with relevant stakeholders.



Responsibilities & Context:

BRAC is an international development organisation founded in Bangladesh in 1972 that partners globally with over 100 million people living with inequality and poverty to create opportunities to realise their potential.

The Project Officer (Community Grain Storage) ensures efficient management and sustainability of community-based grain storage systems to improve household food security and reduce post-harvest losses. The role strengthens community capacity in safe grain handling, proper storage practices, and transparent record keeping. It also ensures equitable access to stored grains during lean or emergency periods. Additionally, the position supports building sustainable market linkages between producers and buyers for improved food systems.

  • Support the timely implementation of Community Grain Storage (CGS) activities in assigned operational areas.

  • Facilitate establishment, rehabilitation, and proper functioning of community-managed grain storage facilities.

  • Ensure adherence to approved targeting criteria and beneficiary selection guidelines.

  • Support operationalization and capacity strengthening of Community Management Committees (ACMCs).

  • Provide technical guidance on improved post-harvest handling, drying, storage, and pest management practices.

  • Conduct and facilitate training sessions for beneficiaries, committee members, and field facilitators.

  • Promote adoption of climate-resilient and loss-reduction storage technologies.

  • Conduct regular field monitoring visits to assess performance and utilization of Community Grain Storage facilities.

  • Manage contributions, service charges, and financial records, maintain registers, challan book, meeting minutes, and reporting documents as per donor requirement.

  • Ensure accurate data collection, verification, and timely reporting using approved tools and formats.

  • Document case studies, lessons learned, and good practices from field implementation.

  • Maintain effective coordination with local government institutions, agricultural extension offices, Local Supply Depot (LSD) and community leaders.

  • Liaise with implementing partners, NGOs, and relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.

  • Participate in coordination meetings and contribute field-level operational updates.

  • Support distribution and tracking of project inputs and materials (storage units, tools, training materials, etc.).

  • Monitor condition and utilization of grain storage facilities and report maintenance needs.

  • Ensure proper handling and accountability of project assets at field level

  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and activity progress reports.

Safeguarding

  • Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme`s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action

  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so
