Job Context:
∎ The Disease Surveillance Officer is responsible for providing technical leadership and assistance of disease surveillance activities throughout the implementation of planned projects and act as key focal person in case of emergency outbreak responses, such as cholera response. As part of the HIS team, they will be responsible for all inputs into the Disease Early Warning System (DEWS), ensuring that staff are properly trained to identify and report the flagged diseases. In the case of a potential outbreak, the DSRO will oversee a cadre of data collectors to conduct surveillance activities and help inform an intervention strategy. They will review and revise surveillance training manuals to maintain consistency with national disease surveillance protocols and guidelines. The Disease Surveillance Officer will continuously train and work closely with staff to ensure standards of practice are followed and case definitions are known and used to monitor disease trends.

∎ Report To: DSRO Supervisor
∎ Expected Start Date: At Earliest
∎ Contract length: Up to 31st December, 2022 (With possibility of Extension subject to funding, program needs and performance of incumbent)

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Organize epidemiological data in support of RI’s program objectives.
∎ Travel to the field with mobile teams to provide quality assurance checks on data collected.
∎ Advise the RI team on epidemiological matters that arise during implementation, and when necessary devise new data collection tools to meet epidemiological/disease surveillance needs.
∎ Develop systems to ensure collection of medical information during early program design/start-up phases and re-evaluation of tools throughout the program cycle.
∎ Completing entry, aggregation, and compilation of data and submission to relevant stakeholders.
∎ Organize collection/analysis of medical data for activity reports.
∎ Build the capacity of the registrar and other medical staff on data collection.
∎ Attend trainings and information sessions pertaining to data collection and information management tools.
∎ Support other departments with data collection needs as needed.
∎ Any Other task assigned by supervisor.

Additional Requirements:
∎ Both males and females are allowed to apply
∎ Two years of experience working in a similar position with data collection.
∎ Experience developing and managing data collection systems for disease surveillance.
∎ Ability to train and supervise staff and prioritize competing tasks.
∎ Good English language skills a must.
∎ Knowledge of and experience using data collection tools.

Salary:
∎ As per RI National Pay Scale Policy in Bangladesh

Compensation & Other Benefits:
∎ Weekly 2 holidays, Insurance.
∎ Two festival bonuses in a year equivalent to one Gross salary.
∎ Severance (8.33% of the monthly Gross salary) goes with the monthly release of the salary.
