∎ The ADL-BioTech Research and Development Unit has been established in 2010 as one of the new dimensions of American Dairy Limited and it`s a corporate entity of ADL, Gazipur, Bangladesh. The ADL-BioTech works with vertical genetic improvement of available cattle genetic resources in Bangladesh to maximize the economic as well as biological efficiency of animals to develop profitable livestock farming system. By principle, the ADL-BioTech Unit aims at developing farmers` friendly assorted HYB cattle gene pools, in a possible short span of time, to promote milk and beef turnover in the country by adopting modern biotechnological methods and techniques used in advance animal agriculture system in tropical conditions. It has been working with the domesticated ruminant species including dairy and beef cattle breeds since 2003. However, the ADL-BioTech would work with other ruminants like goat and buffalo breeds. Meanwhile, the ADL has launched a mega project on genetic improvement of dairy cattle in its own client groups by establishing a HYV nucleolus breeding herd to operate an ONBS in combination with MOET breeding technique utilizing superior exotic germplasm by scholarly effort of its stockpile of regular and consultative expert panel of scientists to develop profitable livestock farming environment in its own client groups, and the livestock farming community in the country as well.
The ADL-BioTech likely to work with the latest animal breeding and reproductive biotechnologies like AI, MOET, IVF, production and use of bovine sexed semen, community based alternative young bull breeding program, and molecular biology/ genetic engineering like karyotyping, DNA/gene sequencing, genome analysis, nuclear transplantation, trangenesis etc. modern animal breeding and reproductive biotechnologies to bring forth a revolutionary breakthrough in traditional animal agriculture system in Bangladesh.
