Job Context:
∎ Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB) is one of the leading organizations dedicated to public health research in Bangladesh. The centre is now looking for qualified person to fulfill the following vacant post immediately to work in Injury, disaster and drowning prevention programme.
∎ Job location: Kalapara of Patuakhali/ Betagi or Taltoli of Barguna under Barishal Division
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Background/purpose of the role: ? Drowning is a leading cause of death worldwide. It's a serious, neglected public health threat, claiming the lives of 320,000 people every year.
∎ More than 90% of drowning occurs in low- and middle-income countries, where people have higher exposure to the risks associated with open water as they go about their daily lives: collecting water, bathing, fishing and playing.
∎ In Bangladesh, drowning is the leading cause of death for children aged 1-17, with 18,000 young lives lost needlessly every year. Disasters and water-related risks affect all areas of Bangladesh, with the Barishal Division bearing the highest burden. Despite the death toll, action to reduce and prevent drowning in Barisal has been absent.
∎ In Bangladesh, drowning deaths mostly occur in rural areas, away from hospitals and out of the sight of policy makers. Evidence shows that a range of interventions are effective at preventing drowning, including the strategic use of barriers to control access to water, provision of safe places such as day care centres for pre-school children, and teaching school-age children basic swimming skills.
∎ Project Bhasa (which means 'float' in Bengali) is a groundbreaking initiative to reduce drowning in the Barisal Division of Bangladesh. The project is developing a multi-sector and evidence-led strategy to target the most vulnerable people
∎ The outcome that this project is seeking to achieve is for other organisations to be in a position whereby they can deliver effective drowning prevention interventions for boys and girls under 12 in the Barishal division.
∎ -Prepare Action Plan for the project and implementation (yearly, quarterly, monthly plans)
∎ ? Field staff supervision & coordination
∎ ? Reporting (weekly, monthly, quarterly & yearly)
∎ ? Attend various types of meeting, like- VIPC, UIPC, Parents meeting, Courtyard Meeting, Cluster meeting etc
∎ Coordination with all field staff, VIPC committee, UIPC committee, Upazila level stakeholder, Project coordinator; if needed, the Head Office
∎ Networking and communication with Partner GO, NGO and others Stakeholders Financial dealings with support of the FAO
∎ Office management (leave, movement, staff reporting, documentation etc.)
∎ Extensive field visit for ensuring quality of the program
∎ Problem solving and staff developing (training, motivation etc.)
∎ Logistics supply/distribution and ensuring proper usage of the logistics in the field
∎ Communication with local media personnel
∎ Assist in increasing awareness among local people
∎ Monitoring and evaluation of project activities
∎ Supervision of data entry and data upload
∎ Organizing, conducting and participating in different types of stakeholders at local and regional level for engaging in the ongoing project
∎ Organizing various events, e. g., donor visit, trainings etc.
∎ Locally resolve various field related issues and communicate with the Head Office if not locally manageable
∎ Support the organization when required
Additional Requirements:
∎ 3-5 years’ experiences in Education programme with a good exposure to work at the community level. Candidates having knowledge and experience to work in Disaster/injury and drowning prevention will be an advantage.
Salary:
∎ Consolidated monthly salary is Tk. 44,653 (Including taxes).
