Overall Purpose:
The Accountant is responsible for managing the full-cycle financial operations of SGB, with a primary focus on protecting profit margins through rigorous food-cost control, managing event-based project accounting, ensuring strict compliance with Bangladesh's VAT and tax laws, and delivering strategic financial insights to support business growth in a fast-paced catering environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Food & Beverage Costing: Calculate the exact per-plate and per-event costs (ingredients, labor, overhead) to determine menu pricing, monitor gross profit margins, and recommend cost-saving measures.
Inventory Control: Conduct regular physical stock counts of raw materials, dry goods, and beverages; reconcile physical counts with system records, investigate significant variances, spoilage, or theft, and implement stronger control procedures.
Event Job Costing: Treat each catering event (weddings, corporate galas, conferences) as a separate project—track and allocate all direct and indirect costs (food, transport, rentals, temporary staff) to determine per-event profitability and identify high-margin opportunities.
General Ledger & Daily Transactions: Maintain accurate daily entries for all sales, purchases, operating expenses, and inter-department transfers in the general ledger, ensuring data integrity at all times.
Accounts Payable (AP): Process supplier invoices (meat, vegetable, beverage vendors), verify pricing against purchase orders, negotiate favorable payment terms, and ensure timely, accurate payments to maintain strong vendor relationships.
Accounts Receivable (AR): Issue professional invoices to corporate and private clients, proactively follow up on outstanding collections to maintain healthy cash flow, and manage aging reports to minimize bad debts.
Payroll Processing: Calculate monthly salaries, wages, overtime, and incentives for kitchen, service, and delivery staff, while ensuring correct statutory deductions (income tax) are applied and all labor-related compliances are met.
Bank & Cash Management: Perform daily bank reconciliations, manage petty cash for local bazaar purchases, reconcile daily Point-of-Sale (POS) sales against actual bank deposits, and oversee cash handling procedures to prevent discrepancies.
Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow statements, with clear variance analysis against budgets.
Statutory Tax & VAT Compliance (NBR): Ensure 100% compliance with the National Board of Revenue (NBR) by accurately calculating, withholding, and timely depositing VAT on food sales and Tax at Source (TDS) on vendor/subcontractor payments; manage all tax return filings and liaise directly with tax authorities when needed.
Audit & Internal Controls: Prepare all required audit schedules, documentation, and reconciliations for internal and external auditors; act as the primary finance liaison during audit periods and implement audit recommendations to strengthen internal controls.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Analysis: Lead the preparation of the annual operating budget, provide weekly cash flow forecasts, and deliver profitability analyses that guide management decisions (e.g., menu changes, promotional offers, or supplier negotiations); mentor junior accounting staff on best practices.
Essential Qualifications for Bangladesh:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CA/ACCA part-qualified is a strong advantage).
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience (hospitality/catering/restaurant background is mandatory).
Advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros) and proficiency in standard accounting software.
In-depth, working knowledge of Bangladesh Income Tax and VAT Acts, with proven experience handling NBR audits or inquiries.
Strong English and Bengali communication skills, high integrity, extreme attention to detail, and proven ability to work under pressure during peak event seasons.
Salary & Compensation:
Monthly salary: BDT 25,000 – 27,000 (based on experience and qualifications).
