Responsibilities & Context:

Overall Purpose:
The Accountant is responsible for managing the full-cycle financial operations of SGB, with a primary focus on protecting profit margins through rigorous food-cost control, managing event-based project accounting, ensuring strict compliance with Bangladesh's VAT and tax laws, and delivering strategic financial insights to support business growth in a fast-paced catering environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food & Beverage Costing: Calculate the exact per-plate and per-event costs (ingredients, labor, overhead) to determine menu pricing, monitor gross profit margins, and recommend cost-saving measures.

  • Inventory Control: Conduct regular physical stock counts of raw materials, dry goods, and beverages; reconcile physical counts with system records, investigate significant variances, spoilage, or theft, and implement stronger control procedures.

  • Event Job Costing: Treat each catering event (weddings, corporate galas, conferences) as a separate project—track and allocate all direct and indirect costs (food, transport, rentals, temporary staff) to determine per-event profitability and identify high-margin opportunities.

  • General Ledger & Daily Transactions: Maintain accurate daily entries for all sales, purchases, operating expenses, and inter-department transfers in the general ledger, ensuring data integrity at all times.

  • Accounts Payable (AP): Process supplier invoices (meat, vegetable, beverage vendors), verify pricing against purchase orders, negotiate favorable payment terms, and ensure timely, accurate payments to maintain strong vendor relationships.

  • Accounts Receivable (AR): Issue professional invoices to corporate and private clients, proactively follow up on outstanding collections to maintain healthy cash flow, and manage aging reports to minimize bad debts.

  • Payroll Processing: Calculate monthly salaries, wages, overtime, and incentives for kitchen, service, and delivery staff, while ensuring correct statutory deductions (income tax) are applied and all labor-related compliances are met.

  • Bank & Cash Management: Perform daily bank reconciliations, manage petty cash for local bazaar purchases, reconcile daily Point-of-Sale (POS) sales against actual bank deposits, and oversee cash handling procedures to prevent discrepancies.

  • Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow statements, with clear variance analysis against budgets.

  • Statutory Tax & VAT Compliance (NBR): Ensure 100% compliance with the National Board of Revenue (NBR) by accurately calculating, withholding, and timely depositing VAT on food sales and Tax at Source (TDS) on vendor/subcontractor payments; manage all tax return filings and liaise directly with tax authorities when needed.

  • Audit & Internal Controls: Prepare all required audit schedules, documentation, and reconciliations for internal and external auditors; act as the primary finance liaison during audit periods and implement audit recommendations to strengthen internal controls.

  • Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Analysis: Lead the preparation of the annual operating budget, provide weekly cash flow forecasts, and deliver profitability analyses that guide management decisions (e.g., menu changes, promotional offers, or supplier negotiations); mentor junior accounting staff on best practices.

Essential Qualifications for Bangladesh:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CA/ACCA part-qualified is a strong advantage).

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience (hospitality/catering/restaurant background is mandatory).

  • Advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros) and proficiency in standard accounting software.

  • In-depth, working knowledge of Bangladesh Income Tax and VAT Acts, with proven experience handling NBR audits or inquiries.

  • Strong English and Bengali communication skills, high integrity, extreme attention to detail, and proven ability to work under pressure during peak event seasons.

Salary & Compensation:

  • Monthly salary: BDT 25,000 – 27,000 (based on experience and qualifications).
