Background
Cowater International Inc. is currently implementing an eight-year Project titled "Empowering Women through Professionalization of the Nursing Sector in Bangladesh (ProNurse)” The project aims to enhance the voice and influence of women in the health sector in Bangladesh, specifically through the empowerment and professionalization of nurses. The Project’s expected results include: i) improved quality of gender-responsive education for female nurses in both public and private sectors in Bangladesh; ii) improved performance and professional status of female nurses in Bangladesh; and iii) improved enabling environment for female nurses’ for increased participation in the health sector in Bangladesh.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Accountant , based in Dhaka and reporting to the Finance and Operations Manager, will be responsible for maintaining all accounting and financial functions and systems, preparing monthly fund requests and financial reports in accordance with procedures and financial guidelines in the Project financial manual.
Job Responsibilities
Prepare payment, journal and deposit vouchers with accurate coding, completeness and authenticity and capture transactions/data into vantagepoint;
Review and validate all supporting documentation before processing payments and ensure all relevant supporting documentation is attached to all payments;
Record and reconcile financial transactions following appropriate authorization;
Follow up with technical staff on advance funds liquidation;
Maintain proper filing of related financial documents, ensuring that all files are properly indexed with folio numbers and locked safely and ensure easy access and retrieval;
Prepare/assist to prepare monthly financial reports, as required;
Assist with preparation of monthly financial forecasts;
Prepare monthly bank reconciliation;
Preparation of daily debit, credit, transfer and journal vouchers for preparation of accounts;
Ensure monthly transaction are entered in Vantage point working closely with FAM;
Preparation of Monthly Financial Reports, ensuring all vouchers/documents sent to HQ, keep photocopies at Field Office;
Prepare of bank reconciliations, cross check all payments against bank statement;
Maintain petty cash including accounts/statements, bills/vouchers, and prepare petty cash reconciliations/replenishment to FAM;
Verify all bills, prepare payments and advances and submit to FAM for review an onward submission to Canadian Field Manager for signature.
Review cash/bank and travel advance reconciliations for approval by CFM and submission to Cowater International;
Oversee daily/monthly accounts for expenditures from ProNurse bank accounts;
Oversee tax compliance, including timely submission of tax remittances.
Coordinate with auditors and support audit processes by ensuring proper documentation and compliance.
Oversee petty cash management, including reconciliation and replenishment
Review all payments vouchers, advances, and reconciliations for approval by TL and submission to Cowater International;
Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Team Leader and the Finance and Operations Manager from time to time.
