Experience and Additional Requirements

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in accessibility, Universal Design, and inclusion.

• Strong knowledge of the Bangladesh National Building Code and international standards.

• Proven experience in design review, accessibility audits, and training facilitation.

• Prior work with NGOs/INGOs on inclusive development projects is preferred.

• Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills.

Handicap International-Humanity & Inclusion, Bangladesh mission, is looking for an Accessibility Advisor (Casual Worker).

Contextual Summary:

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has commissioned a CARE Bangladesh-led consortium to implement the Nature-Based Adaptation towards Prosperous and Adept Lives & Livelihoods in Bangladesh (NABAPALLAB / নবপল্লব) project in two Ecologically Critical Areas (ECAs): the Sundarbans and Hakaluki Haor. Consortium members include CARE Bangladesh, CNRS, Cordaid, C3ER-BRAC University, DSK, Friendship, Humanity & Inclusion (HI), iDE, and Practical Action.

The project contributes to the Government of Bangladesh’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP), NDC commitments, biodiversity priorities, and the UK’s International Climate Finance (ICF). Given the environmental and social vulnerabilities of the ECAs, inclusive and accessible approaches are critical. As a technical partner, HI seeks to recruit an Accessibility Advisor (Casual Worker) to ensure accessibility and Universal Design are integrated across NABAPALLAB interventions.

Objective of the Assignment:

The Accessibility Advisor (Casual Worker) will provide technical expertise to:

• Integrate accessibility standards and Universal Design principles in NABAPALLAB activities.

• Review architectural and infrastructure designs for accessibility.

• Build the capacity of consortium partners through training, ToT, and on-the-job support.

• Conduct field audits and provide actionable recommendations.

Scope of Work / Key Responsibilities:

The Accessibility Advisor (Casual Worker) will work on a deliverable basis (maximum 15 days/month) with responsibilities including:

• Guidelines & Tools

  • Develop/review accessibility guidelines for WASH, shelter, and infrastructure.

• Capacity Building

  • Prepare training modules on accessible WASH/infrastructure.

  • Facilitate ToT sessions and provide on-site coaching.

• Technical Support

  • Review and provide feedback on project designs.

  • Conduct field visits and prepare reports.

• Advisory Role

• Provide continuous support to partners for integrating accessibility in daily implementation.

Working Modality:

• Engagement: Up to 15 days per month (September–December 2025) as per need.

• Location: Khulna, Sylhet & Dhaka, with field visits as required. Home-based for review works.

• Reporting: To HI’s Technical Project Manager.

• Availability: Field visits and virtual engagements as per assigned tasks.

Deliverables:

• Training modules and ToT reports on accessible WASH/infrastructure.

• Technical review notes on infrastructure and technology designs (e.g., cyclone centers, rainwater harvesting, resilient housing, WASH blocks).

• Field visit/audit reports with recommendations.

• Participation in consortium partner meetings (virtual/physical).

Duration & Contract:

• Duration: 4 months (September–December 2025).

• Contract Type: Casual Worker (on a daily basis).

• Payment Terms: Daily rate in line with HI policies, upon submission of approved deliverables and timesheets. When travel outside the base is involved, per diem, accommodation, and flight/transport costs will be covered as per the HI travel policy.
