Education:
    • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Urban & Regional Planning
  • Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology,Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology,Khulna University of Engineering and Technology,Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology students will get preference
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Urban & Regional Planning, City & Regional Planning, Urban Design, Geography, or related subject from a recognized university.

  • BIP Membership (Bangladesh Institute of Planners) preferred.

Additional Requirements:
  • Age At least 28 years
  • 5 to 7 years of professional experience in town planning, urban development, GIS, or land-use planning.

  • Experience with private real estate developers, consulting firms, or government authorities will be an added advantage.

  • Proficiency in GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS), AutoCAD, SketchUp, and planning visualization tools.

  • Strong understanding of building codes, planning regulations, zoning acts, and environmental requirements.

  • Knowledge of infrastructure planning—transport, utilities, drainage, environment, etc.

  • Ability to prepare professional reports, layouts, and impact assessments.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities.

  • Effective communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Project management and time-management abilities.

  • Ability to work under deadlines and handle multiple projects.



Responsibilities & Context:

The Town Planner/Urban Planner will be responsible for guiding, designing and monitoring the development of urban and rural land use to ensure sustainable, functional and well-planned communities. The role involves long-term planning, zoning management, infrastructure coordination, environmental protection and ensuring compliance with national development policies. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong technical skills, strategic thinking and the ability to manage complex planning projects with multiple stakeholders.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Urban & Regional Planning:

  • Develop master plans, regional development strategies and land-use frameworks.

  • Prepare detailed area plans (DAP), urban renewal plans and infrastructure development proposals.

  • Identify planning problems and propose effective solutions related to housing, transportation, environment and utilities.

 

Land Use & Zoning Management:

  • Prepare and review zoning maps, land-use classifications and development control regulations.

  • Ensure proposed developments comply with national rules (RAJUK, City Corporation, Pourashava, NHA, etc.).

  • Monitor land-use changes and update land-use plans as needed.

 

Research, Data Collection & Analysis:

  • Conduct demographic, socio-economic, environmental and spatial data studies.

  • Perform feasibility studies, site analysis and infrastructure assessments.

  • Utilize GIS tools to generate maps, projections, growth trends and scenario modeling.

 

Digital Planning & GIS:

  • Prepare and manage planning-related GIS databases.

  • Use AutoCAD, ArcGIS, QGIS, SketchUp and related software to produce drawings, layouts and spatial visualizations.

  • Support the development of digital planning platforms and smart city solutions.

 

Infrastructure & Utility Planning:

  • Assess needs for transportation, drainage, water supply, waste management, electricity and public facilities.

  • Coordinate with engineering teams to design road networks, public open spaces and community infrastructure.

  • Contribute to environmental impact and social impact assessments.

 

Project Monitoring & Field Visits:

  • Conduct site visits to verify project progress and compliance with planning documents.

  • Monitor development activities to ensure alignment with approved plans.

  • Provide technical guidance to architects, surveyors, engineers and field teams.

 

Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with government agencies, development authorities and regulatory bodies.

  • Participate in public hearings, community meetings and stakeholder workshops.

  • Prepare strong documentation, presentations and reports for internal and external stakeholders.

 

Policy & Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure all planning work adheres to government policies, building codes, environmental laws and safety standards.

  • Draft policy recommendations, guidelines and planning reports to support decision-making.
