The Waste Management Specialist will lead the implementation of the St. Martin Solid Waste Management Project. S/he will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and ensuring quality implementation of all solid waste management activities in line with the Solid Waste Management Rules 2021, including coordination with government stakeholders, supervision of staff, project implementation, and technical oversight of infrastructure components.

Job Description:

  • Implement the design, construction, and operation of the Secondary Transfer Station (STS) on St. Martin.

  • Ensure effective waste collection and transportation operations, including hiring, training, and managing waste workers, vehicle fleets, and transportation to the main land.

  • Coordinate stakeholder capacity-building workshops for government agencies, local entrepreneurs, and community groups on waste segregation at source, eco-friendly alternatives, and sustainable practices.

  • Oversee the tourist awareness campaigns and ensure integration of communication materials, and youth mobilization.

  • Supervise the Field Coordinator, Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, and Community Mobilizer for effective project implementation, data record, and reporting.

  • Prepare periodic progress reports, M&E reports, technical documents, budget and others updates.

  • Supervise the design, and implementation of Marine Cleanup Programme with local fisherman community

  • Liaise with Union Parishad and Department of Environment to ensure long-term sustainability of the project.

SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme`s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.

  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
