Candidates should meet the following requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in infrastructure design, construction supervision, engineering consultancy, or a related field.

Demonstrated experience in:

  • AutoCAD or similar engineering design software;

  • Preparation of BOQ and detailed cost estimates;

  • Infrastructure design and technical documentation; and

  • Construction monitoring and supervision.

  • Experience working in coastal, climate-vulnerable, or disaster-prone areas will be preferred.

  • Strong analytical, reporting, communication, and coordination skills.



Responsibilities & Context:

AVAS, as a host organization of the Sundarban Coalition, invites applications from qualified, experienced, and motivated professionals for the position of Short-Term Engineer for the Sundarban Coalition Secretariat for 3 month.

The selected person will provide technical support for the planning, design, cost estimation, monitoring, and supervision of small-scale infrastructure works in the coastal “Locally Led Disaster Risk Reduction in The Bangladesh Coastal Region” project areas. The infrastructure may include earthen and rural roads, footbridges, houses, community toilets, water storage tanks, tube wells, drainage systems, and other water management structures.

The selected person will be responsible for the following:

  • Conduct site visits, site surveys, and technical assessments of proposed infrastructure works.

  • Collect and analyze relevant technical information required for infrastructure planning and design.

  • Prepare engineering designs, drawings, and layouts for approved infrastructure works using AutoCAD or similar software.

  • Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ), detailed cost estimates, and technical specifications.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to project staff and partner organizations.

  • Ensure that proposed designs and specifications are appropriate to the local context and project requirements.

  • Monitor and supervise construction activities through periodic field visits.

  • Assess the quality of construction work, materials, and construction methods against approved designs and specifications.

  • Identify technical issues, deviations, defects, and quality concerns and recommend appropriate corrective measures.

  • Maintain relevant technical documentation and prepare regular progress and monitoring reports.

  • Review completed works and provide technical certification/recommendation as appropriate.

  • Present technical findings and recommendations to AVAS/project management when required.

The consultant will be expected to produce relevant technical deliverables, which may include:

  • Site survey and assessment reports

  • Engineering designs and drawings

  • BOQs and detailed cost estimates

  • Technical specifications

  • Construction monitoring and supervision reports

  • Technical recommendations and corrective action reports
