Responsibilities & Context:
∎ Through daily /weekly monitoring of water supplied to the community from water sources, central storage systems and distribution points, ensuring that drinking water delivered to refugee camps and the host community is safe and meets SPHERE and WHO standards for human consumption
∎ Carry out regularly the water quality testing and analysis, chemical, physical and bacteriological testing in target villages and report immediately if there is any suspect of pollution
∎ Supervise the emergency water treatment when the need arises-chlorination of drinking water supplied to Refugees & Host communities
∎ Task the field team and lab technician to conduct the daily basis fee residual chlorine of treated water at distribution points (public water stand posts), water storage and randomly selected family water collecting containers
∎ Inspect regularly the central water storage systems in IDP camps and ensure that they are properly maintained and well-kept, visit at least twice in camps
∎ In collaboration with the Hygiene promotion team, organise awareness and education campaigns on best practices in handling water households, cleaning the family storage containers and separating drinking water from water set for other domestic usage
∎ Ensure proper handling and adequate storage of all water treatment chemicals (HTH, Water purification tablets) and other disinfectants
∎ Record and document properly the test outcome result of each water test carried out and recommend appropriate measures accordingly, and report weekly, monthly and quarterly and need basis
∎ Ensure requests for all relevant tools and reagents for water testing has been raised on time to ensure adequate stock of reagents in ensured at all times
∎ Ensure the water quality analysis has been carried out at least twice for each borehole drilled – during borehole development and after hand pump installation
∎ Represent BRAC WASH water quality in sector technical working groups
∎ Assist the Team Lead in designing water safety planning an response
∎ Initiate the capacity-building requirement for the water quality team
∎ Ensure the overall Water Quality Laboratory remained functional
∎ Monthly inventory of the water quality laboratory supplies and prepare a report to the team lead
∎ Order the necessary supplies and items that are important to keep the laboratory functional
∎ Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment
∎ Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action
∎ Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so
∎ The Microbiologist is responsible for monitoring water quality tests, reporting, coordinating with the sector, keeping the laboratory functional, and any other task assigned by the supervisor
