Experience:
Bsc in Microbiology, Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering, Biochemistry or Equivalent subjects from any UGC approved reputed university or institute.
Strong knowledge of WASH and development sector in humanitarian response, including water quality standards (WHO, EPA, DPHE, Sphere) and environmental & social safeguards
Ability to ensure functionality of water quality laboratories through regular monitoring, inventory management, and timely procurement of supplies
Proficiency in computer applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data management tools including KoBo for digital data collection
Skills in GIS and mapping (ArcGIS/QGIS) along with dashboard development using Tableau and Power BI for data visualization
Strong technical capacity in site supervision, infrastructure monitoring, and ensuring quality compliance in construction works
Effective documentation, reporting, and communication skills to support project tracking and decision-making
Demonstrated competencies in supportive supervision, team building, collaboration, and stakeholder relationship management
Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and efficient project and time management skills

The Microbiologist is responsible for planning water sampling, performing water quality tests, microbiological contamination mitigation plan, reporting, dashboard update, result dissemination & coordinating with all performing WASH IP at Bhasan Char Camp through WASH sector, keeping the laboratory functional maintain supply chain management for laboratory reagent and any other task assigned by the supervisor.
Through daily sampling & monitoring of water supplied to the community from water sources like Deep tube wall, cluster household storage and inline chlorination distribution points, ensuring that drinking water delivered to refugee camps and the host community is safe and meets WHO, EPA and local DPHE standards for human consumption
Carry out regularly the water quality testing and analysis, chemical, physical and bacteriological testing in BC camp and report immediately if there is any suspect of pollution
Supervise the emergency water treatment when the need arises-chlorination of drinking water supplied to Bhasan Char FDMN Camp
Develop lab technical resources (e.g. strategic framework, standard operating procedures (SOPs), manuals) to guide BRAC WASH lab interventions, along with field specific observations
Develop lab related monitoring tools (e.g. checklists), maintain water quality dashboard, regular update Water Contamination Follow up Response Mechanism tool for disseminating contamination update
All possible water quality related technical support to WASH team members and regularly trained the water sample collector and water related field staff.
Ensure that all water quality related data is well managed and provides an accurate representation of the reality on the ground.
Conduct regular trainings on lab staff for capacity building.
Monitor lab related reagent expenditures, budgets, and track activity expenses; ensure smooth operation of lab
In collaboration with the Hygiene promotion team, organise awareness and education campaigns on best practices in handling water households, cleaning the family storage containers and separating drinking water from water set for other domestic usage
Record and document properly the test outcome result of each water test carried out and recommend appropriate measures accordingly, and report weekly, monthly and quarterly and need basis
Ensure requests for all relevant tools and reagents for water testing has been raised on time to ensure adequate stock of reagents in ensured at all times
Safeguarding
Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme`s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment
Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action
