Education:
    • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Civil Engineering
    • Master of Development Studies (MDS)
  • Master’s degree in Environmental Science/ Management, Urban Planning, Development Studies/Public Administration.

  • B.Sc. in Civil/Environmental/Mechanical/ Industrial Production Engineering, or related field from a reputed institute.

Skills Required:

Additional Requirements:
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in waste management, circular economy, urban development, environmental programming, or related sectors.

  • Prior work with municipalities, donors, and multi-stakeholder urban systems will be a strong advantage.

About the Project:

BRAC intends to implement an upcoming project to establish the foundation for a sustainable, inclusive, and operationally efficient solid waste management system in Pabna Municipality. The project will support targeted interventions aimed at strengthening the overall urban waste management ecosystem, including improving waste containment and collection systems, enhancing the capacity of waste workers, promoting behaviour change, and expanding community-based resource recovery and recycling systems. The duration of this project will be for one year.

Job Purpose: The Senior Specialist, Waste Management will provide technical leadership and strategic direction for city-level waste management interventions. S/he will coordinate with donors, local government, and key stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and alignment of project activities. A key responsibility of the role is to gather field insights, oversee implementation quality, and translate learning into strategic recommendations for the next phase of program design. S/he will play a central role in shaping the future design and scaling of waste management interventions, including systems for collection, segregation, resource recovery, and recycling

Job Description:

  • Provide overall technical leadership and strategic guidance for city-level waste management interventions, including collection, segregation, and resource recovery systems.
  • Coordinate with donors, local government authorities, and key stakeholders to ensure effective planning, alignment, and implementation of project activities.
  • Oversee the quality of implementation and ensure standards are maintained across all waste management interventions.
  • Gather and synthesize field insights, implementation learning, and stakeholder feedback to inform adaptive management.
  • Develop evidence-based strategic recommendations for future program design, scale-up, and improvement of waste management systems.
  • Support integration of different project components to ensure a coherent and efficient city-wide waste management approach.
  • Facilitate technical review and guidance for innovations and pilot initiatives in waste management and circular economy approaches.
  • Ensure safeguarding principles are integrated into all waste management interventions, promoting a safe, ethical, and accountable working environment.
  • Ensure gender equality and social inclusion considerations are reflected in all technical designs, implementation approaches, and recommendations.
  • Contribute to documentation of technical processes, lessons learned, and best practices for knowledge sharing and future programming.
  • SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the programme’s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.
