Provide response and prevention services to ensure access to justice through direct interventions impacting the lives of women, girls, men and boys, diversified gender and mainstreaming in other response programming and operational areas for ensuring access to justice through providing legal assistance.
Programming
• Coordinate with UNHCR Legal Protection to ensure timely delivery of legal assistance to Person of Concerns (PoC).
• Provide legal counseling, advice, and representation to PoCs at police stations and courts.
• Conduct legal awareness sessions for refugees, community leaders, and religious leaders in camps.
• Facilitate and mediate disputes among PoCs, maintain mediation records, and follow up on settlements.
• Assist PoCs with filing complaints, First Information Report (FIR), General Diary (GD), and cases at police stations and courts.
• Conduct detention center visits, advocate for PoCs’ release, and facilitate prison visits for refugees to meet family members.
• Collaborate with law enforcement to rescue trafficking victims and provide legal support.
• Facilitate capacity-building training for staff and refugee volunteers (paralegals) on legal assistance.
• Maintain effective coordination with PoCs, local authorities, protection partners, and other stakeholders to address legal needs.
• Participate in camp-level coordination, protection meetings, and initiatives to improve PoCs’ access to justice.
• Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for refugees and analyze case outcomes using legal precedents.
• Represent clients in court or before government agencies, preparing strategies, gathering evidence, and examining case data.
• Draft legal opinions, maintain communication with relevant stakeholders, and perform administrative tasks as required.
Grant Management and Reporting
• Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and annual legal statements and work plans.
• Compile internal and external reports within agreed deadlines using BRAC and donor formats.
Staff Management and Development
• Build and maintain open, supportive relationships with team members to promote team spirit.
• Provide ongoing constructive feedback and develop action plans for Associate Legal Officers and paralegal volunteers.
• Train, mentor, and coach team members to strengthen technical capacity and address gaps in knowledge and practice.
Coordination
• Work closely with the Project Manager, Deputy Project Manager, and case Management lawyers to ensure programming is well-supported and aligns with BRAC policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with other BRAC departments to ensure effective working relationships.
• Establish and maintain relationships with community members, NGOs, government authorities, and UN agencies.
• Participate in internal coordination meetings and ensure effective collaboration with partner organizations and stakeholders.
Safeguarding
• Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organization and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
