The Senior Project Officer, Legal, is responsible for delivering legal aid and justice services to Persons of Concern (PoCs), with a focus on trafficking survivors and other vulnerable populations in humanitarian settings. The position supports access to justice through legal counselling, representation, and coordination with law enforcement, courts, and other stakeholders. This role ensures the integration of legal services with protection programming, particularly around GBV and trafficking cases.
Legal Service Delivery and Case Management
Operate the video testimony hub for trafficking survivors and coordinate timely testimonies.
Provide legal counselling, advice, and representation to PoCs at police stations and courts.
Assist PoCs with the filing of complaints, GDs, FIRs, and legal proceedings.
Conduct legal awareness sessions for community leaders, refugees, volunteers, and religious figures.
Visit detention centres to advocate for the release of PoCs and offer legal support.
Collaborate with law enforcement and legal protection actors to facilitate rescue operations for trafficking victims.
Support the development and implementation of individual legal action plans based on case-specific needs.
Capacity Building, Coordination, and Representation
Facilitate training on legal rights and procedures for volunteers and staff.
Supervise and mentor Associate Legal Officers and paralegal volunteers to ensure service quality.
Participate in coordination meetings with UN focal agency, law enforcement, protection actors, and government authorities.
Maintain strong working relationships with courts, police, and community stakeholders to strengthen referral pathways.
Represent BRAC’s legal programme in inter-agency meetings and legal forums when delegated.
Documentation, Monitoring, and Reporting
Track arrest data, legal case status, and outcomes in line with BRAC and funding agency’s requirements.
Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual legal reports, including qualitative and quantitative data.
Maintain accurate and confidential case documentation, ensuring data protection compliance.
Support grant management activities including budgeting inputs, compliance tracking, and donor reporting.
Safeguarding Implementation:
Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.·
Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
