KNOWLEDGE: BRAC’s values and mission, development sector, global development scenario to identify funding trends, financial and grants management, donor agencies, Basic computer knowledge on MS office applications, conservation and sustainable management of forests in Bangladesh including change processes related to protected areas including forests, wetlands and other ecosystems: management, financing, capacity building; managing information systems and monitoring including the Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART); eco-tourism, ecosystem services; governance of protected areas and buffer zone development, landscape approach including the nexus of biodiversity and climate change (nature-based solutions), creating synergies with a broad range of stakeholders in the working area to advance objectives

SKILLS: Budgeting, communication, writing, monitoring, and evaluating, auditing, project management, project implementation

Responsibilities & Context:

BRAC is an international development organisation founded in Bangladesh in 1972 that partners globally with over 100 million people living with inequality and poverty to create opportunities to realise their potential.

This position is responsible to plan, implement, supervise, and monitor environmental activities (forestry and bio-diversity management activities) closely with UNICEF’s and BRAC’s Education unit including supervision of volunteers.

  • This position is responsible to plan, implement, supervise, and monitor environmental activities (forestry and bio-diversity management activities) in camp and host community.

  •  Support the daily operational implementation of biodiversity conservation and sustainable natural resource management, including forest, environment, and climate change related initiatives.

  • Conduct green schooling activities in learning centres

  • Ensure maintenance of existing plantation/vegetation efforts so that the learning centres remain green.

  • Ensure collection of plantation data and prepare project reports

  •  Ensure compliance with environmental and social safeguarding policies, including risk assessments and mitigation strategies in project implementation.

  •  Promote inclusive and ethical practices by safeguarding vulnerable groups, preventing exploitation, and ensuring community participation in decision-making.

  •  Monitor environmental and social impacts, implement grievance redress mechanisms, and report safeguarding concerns to relevant authorities.

  •  Conduct training and awareness sessions for staff and communities on environmental sustainability, social protection, and safeguarding best practices.

  •  Contributes to knowledge management for the working area, incl. analysing, summarising and presenting information on protected and conserved areas.

Safeguarding

  • Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme`s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action. 

  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
