Responsibilities & Context:
∎ Lead the implementation of climate-resilient fisheries and aquaculture initiatives at the field level, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives
∎ Promote the adoption of climate-smart practices, such as sustainable fishing techniques, resilient aquaculture systems, and ecosystem-based management
∎ Conduct training sessions, workshops, and demonstrations for fishers and fish farmers on climate-resilient practices
∎ Develop training materials and extension tools tailored to local contexts and stakeholder needs
∎ Provide technical guidance to fishers, fish farmers, and local partners on sustainable fisheries management, aquaculture practices, and aquatic ecosystem conservation
∎ Support the adoption of innovative technologies, such as climate-resilient fish species, integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA), and early warning systems for extreme weather events
∎ Work closely with fishing communities to foster collective action and knowledge sharing
∎ Facilitate participatory planning and decision-making processes to ensure inclusivity and ownership of climate-resilient fisheries initiatives
∎ Monitor the progress and impact of climate-resilient fisheries interventions, collecting data on key performance indicators
∎ Prepare regular reports on project activities, outcomes, and challenges for submission to the management
∎ Conduct awareness campaigns on the importance of climate-resilient fisheries and aquaculture management and its benefits for food security and environmental sustainability
∎ Promote and ensure adherence to safeguarding policies within the team, integrating safeguarding standards in all project activities
∎ Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure for any reportable incidents and encourage team members to do the same
∎ Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment
∎ Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action
∎ Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so
∎ The Senior Project Officer-Climate Resilience Fisheries will be responsible for promoting and implementing climate-resilient fisheries and aquaculture practices to enhance the sustainability, productivity, and adaptability of aquatic systems in the face of climate change. The role involves working closely with fishers, fish farmers, local government authorities, and other stakeholders to integrate climate-smart strategies into fisheries and aquaculture management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fisheries, aquaculture, climate change adaptation, and community engagement.
