Responsibilities & Context

With the support of The Global Fund, BRAC Health Programme has been implementing TB Control Project for more than three decades in collaboration with National Tuberculosis Control Programme (NTP). BRAC works in a people-centered approach across rural and urban areas of the country with the aim to ensure prevention, early diagnosis and treatment adherence of tuberculosis through community engagement and Public-Private Mix (PPM) activities so that TB related healthcare services can be widely accessible and affordable to every individual.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepare laboratory activity plan in line with the laboratory operational plan of National Tuberculosis Control Programme (NTP)

  • Close coordination and liaison with GO, NGO and other stakeholder to ensure implementation of programme

  • Ensure availability of laboratory equipment, logistics and supplies for functionality of laboratories following NTP guidelines

  • Ensure routine culture and DST for detection of sensitivity/ resistance of first line and second line anti-TB drugs at tuberculosis reference laboratories

  • Ensure installation of EP sample testing facilities and diagnose EP cases

  • Collect data on routine culture, DST, LPA and EP sample testing, perform analysis and provide report

  • Assist in molecular WHO-recommended rapid diagnostic tests for detection of tuberculosis and drug-resistant tuberculosis under National TB Control Programme’s guidance

  • Supervise ZN/ LED FM microscopy and culture following supervision checklist

  • Manage installation, functioning and maintenance of GeneXpert and TrueNat machines in close collaboration with NTP

  • Identification of problems at operation sites (RTRL/ GeneXpert/ TrueNat) and take immediate necessary measure to resolve it

  • Preparing routine reports and submitting to the concerned authority

  • Ensure quality of laboratory work and Quality Control at all sites

  • Ensure initiatives for infection prevention control measures according to the guidelines

  • Ensure capacity building of team members through field visit, on-job training, workshop etc.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.

  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.
