Responsibilities & Context:

Technical & Quality Control

  • Review tech packs: Analyze tech packs, design sheets, and BOM (Bill of Materials) for completeness.

  • Inspect incoming materials: Verify that fabric, trims, and threads match buyer-approved standards or requirement.

  • Conduct mock-up reviews: Evaluate initial trial fits and construction methods for potential bulk risks.

  • Perform pattern checks: Verify pattern measurements against the spec sheet before cutting fabric.

  • Control sample measurements: Audit 100% of before wash & after wash goods before sent BUYER.

  • Approve final samples: Give the internal "OK to ship" for all samples leaving the department.

Process Management & Risk Mitigation

  • Conduct risk analysis: Identify potential sewing, washing, or fabric defects during the sampling stage.

  • Create defect reports: Document all sample rejections, alterations, and structural failures.

  • Lead pre-production (PP) meetings: Share sample feedback and critical quality points with the bulk production team.

  • Standardize SOPs: Establish clear standard operating procedures for sample cutting, sewing, and finishing.

  • Track corrective actions: Implement fixes for any comments received from the buyer's QA team.

  • Issue analysis: Root cause analysis & take corrective action plan for future improvement.

Communication & Coordination

  • Liaise with merchants: Work closely with merchandisers to understand specific buyer expectations.

  • Coordinate with pattern team: Collaborate with sample manager or pattern maker to correct fit/implement comment.

  • Interface with buyer/ buyer technician: Resolve disputes regarding sample fits, construction, or aesthetic standards.

  • Provide technical feedback: Advise the sample room Incharge/supervisors on how to fix recurring defects.

Team Leadership & Data Tracking

  • Train sample QCs: Educate checking staff on specific buyer quality manuals and tolerances.

  • Monitor KPI metrics: Track the sample right-first-time (RFT) rate and rejection percentages.

  • Manage sample logs: Maintain precise records of buyer comments, approved counter-samples, and sealed samples.
