Job Context:
∎ Project name : Meeting the Protection Needs of Rohingya Refugees in Cox`s Bazar, funded by Penny Appeal
∎ Location of posting : Ukhiya, Cox`s Bazar
∎ Duration of Contract : Up to 31 January 2020
∎ Role Overview: It has now been over a year since the influx of Rohingya people to Ukhiya and Teknaf Upazilas of Cox`s Bazar district in Bangladesh. To respond to this crisis, ActionAid Bangladesh (AAB) provided support to Rohingya people in two sectors, one is Site Management, and another is Protection. A study conducted by the Women`s Refugee Commission , published in November 2018, explored the issue of sexual violence perpetrated against Rohingya men and boys in Myanmar and Bangladesh. This study found that `in addition to women and girls, Rohingya men and adolescent boys appear to be targeted for conflict-related sexual violence in Myanmar`. The intersection of sexual violence against Rohingya men and boys and Rohingya women and girls is noted, as well as the urgent need to strengthen services for both male and female survivors. The 2018 Joint Response Plan for Rohingya Humanitarian Crisis also notes the `serious protection needs like psychosocial distress, neglect and abuse` for children, and an `immense and urgent need to provide mental health and psychosocial support for refugees of all ages`. As part of protection services, AAB has been providing psychosocial counselling service to Rohingya women and girls in the established Women Friendly Centers with fund assistance from Penny Appeal since August 2018. This year, AAB is going to expand this service for Rohingya men and boys as well with establishment of a Centre for men and boys. The Penny Appeal funded project has therefore been designed to address the urgent need for psychosocial support and referral services for Rohingya women, men, and adolescent girls and boys.
∎ Relationships: S/he will report to Psychosocial Counsellor of this project
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Assist in identifying and assessing Rohingya men and boys in need of mental health support/treatment;
∎ Coordinate with the project team to ensure adequate support (e.g. first intervention and referrals to other needed services);
∎ Provide appropriate psychosocial support to Rohingya men and boys in need by conducting one-on-one sessions, follow-up and home visits.
∎ Help and advice Rohingya men and boys adjust to changes and challenges in their lives, such as illness, divorce, unemployment etc. through conducting Life Skills Sessions;
∎ Raise awareness on mental health issues through planning and implementing sensitization and capacity building sessions among e.g. the Rohingya community;
∎ Assist in referring Rohingya men and boys in need of mental health support/treatment to Psychosocial Counselling Associate of Centre for Men and Boys;
∎ Manage, fill and archive specific forms of case profiles, referrals;
∎ Overall ensure confidentiality, accuracy and timeliness through adequate documentation;
∎ Demonstrate the desire and willingness to support AAB and Penny Appeal in supporting refugees, especially those with specific needs;
∎ Provide services without any financial returns or other forms of remuneration or exchange from Penny Appeal, AAB or from refugees (Note: accepting gifts or money from refugees leads to termination of the volunteering activity immediately);
∎ Pledge to interact with the refugees fairly with respect and dignity, as well as act responsibly.
∎ Respect confidentiality of information without sharing it with any other party;
∎ Ensure that information obtained during meetings is dealt with confidentially;
∎ Contribute to building a harmonious environment, based on team spirit, mutual respect and understanding;
∎ Behave properly and positively with refugees, both professionally and personally, in accordance with the highest standards;
∎ Perform duties and conduct private affairs in a manner that avoids conflicts of interest;
∎ Treat refugees equally without discrimination, as well as in accordance with the principles and standards of AAB and its Code of Conduct;
∎ Refrain, prevent, oppose and combat all exploitation and abuse of refugees and other persons of concern, including those of a sexual nature.
∎ Refrain from engaging in any sexual activity with children below 18 years old;
∎ Refrain from any involvement in criminal or unethical activities, activities that contravene human rights, or activities that compromise the image and interests of Penny Appeal and other humanitarian agencies;
∎ Demonstrate permanent readiness to carry out the tasks required to help others unconditionally.
Additional Requirements:
∎ At least one (01) Year Experience in the relative field
∎ Experience in working with marginalized/vulnerable groups.
∎ Experience and understanding of case management and analysis.
∎ Excellent knowledge of protection and GVB minimum standards and basic principles.
∎ Ability to work independently and take initiative.
∎ Other required Skills: Fluency in local language of Chattrogram.
Salary: Tk. 43000 (Monthly)
