Job Context:
∎ The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), one of the world’s leading NGOs, with a focus on responding to displacement, have been registered in Bangladesh since 2013. In 2017, in response to the Rohingya influx, DRC are preparing to launch an integrated program of support to the government in site management, shelter/NFI and protection. In 2018, DRC will be implementing aid projects in support of the host communities most affected by the influx of refugees. As a key part of this, DRC opened a main office in Cox’s Bazar, and a support/liaison office in Dhaka.
∎ Overall purpose of the role: DRC Bangladesh began working in Bangladesh in November 2017, focused on the Rohingya refugee response. The General Protection programme includes case management, protection monitoring, and community-based protection across 12 camps and 4 host community locations. The Protection Monitoring Assistant’s primary function is to ensure quality implementation of protection monitoring activities, in synergy with the overall DRC protection programme in Bangladesh. He/She is responsible to conduct focus group discussions with affected communities and to support weekly analysis and reporting on key protection concerns. The Protection Monitoring Assistant will receive technical guidance and supervision from the Protection Team Leader, together with the Senior Protection Officer.

∎ Designation of Duty Station: Based in Cox’s Bazar and covering selected part of DRC’s area of intervention in Rohingya camps in Ukhia area and within the Bangladesh host communities.
∎ Salary Band – (I)
∎ Contract Length: 31st December 2019.
∎ Expected Starting Date: 5th July 2019.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Conduct regular data collection through individual interviews or household surveys with community members to identify and analyze protection risks affecting their communities, guided by DRC’s protection monitoring SOPs;
∎ Ensure proper documentation and secure storage of any protection data collected (hard and soft copies);
∎ Provide inputs, through SPO, for weekly reporting on activities conducted;
∎ Work with camp-based protection volunteers to identify and assess protection concerns, mobilize for protection monitoring activities, and facilitate referrals for necessary humanitarian services, in collaboration with the SPO;
∎ Ensure targets are met under approved work plans and all trackers are regularly updated, with supervision and support from the SPO;
∎ Foster and maintain excellent working relationships with all stake-holders, and participate in daily coordination with humanitarian and all other local and international actors;
∎ Work closely with other DRC staff, particularly protection monitoring, CBP, GBV, and CP, to ensure synergy across programmes and to mainstream protection across DRC’s interventions.
∎ COORDINATION AND REPRESENTATION
∎ Coordinate and follow up with Protection service providers in the field;
∎ Coordinate with site management and other service providers to facilitate referrals in accordance with the referral pathway;
∎ SUPPORT MANAGEMENT TEAM TO:
∎ Follow up all DRC / DDG Procedures for Security, Finance, Logistics, HR and Administration.
∎ Uphold DRC’s international code of conduct
∎ Any other tasks as may be assigned from time to time.

∎ To be successful in this role we expect you to be flexible and proactive in engaging with existing and potential programming in a changing operational context. The selected candidate will be expected to work at least 90% of the time in the field, directly with communities.
∎ Moreover, we also expect the following Qualifications and Experience:
∎ Previous experience, paid or voluntary, working with vulnerable communities or refugees in a similar context;
∎ Good communication skills in Chittagonian and Rohingya;
∎ At least one years of experience working in protection department of with vulnerable communities.
∎ Willingness and ability to work in field environment, including in all weather conditions;
∎ Good organizational skills and capacity to work independently and as part of a dynamic team;
∎ Computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Kobo)
∎ Preferred qualifications
∎ Ability to communicate in basic English;
∎ Experience working with a non-governmental organization, UN, or local agency, preferably in protection or a related field;
∎ Languages: (indicate fluency level)
