Required Technical Skills:

• Operation and maintenance of agro-processing machinery.

• Strong mechanical troubleshooting capability.

• Basic electrical knowledge (motors, starters, control panels).

• Familiarity with locally fabricated and imported machines.

• Knowledge of tools, fitting work, and minor welding.

Job Summary

To ensure efficient operation, preventive maintenance, and quick troubleshooting of machinery used in vegetable and onion processing, grading, and packaging, ensuring food safety, cost efficiency, and uninterrupted production in compliance with Bangladesh food safety regulations.

Major Responsibilities

1. Machine Operation

• Operate and monitor:

  • Vegetable & onion washing, grading, sorting machines.

  • Peeling, slicing, trimming, cutting machines.

  • Weighing, net bagging, pouch packing, carton packing machines.

  • Conveyor belts, elevators, blowers, and material handling systems.

• Adjust machine settings based on:

  • Local vegetable varieties and onion sizes.

  • Seasonal moisture content and crop quality.

• Ensure smooth startup, shutdown, and changeover during peak season.

2. Preventive Maintenance & Breakdown Handling

• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance

• Troubleshoot mechanical issues related to:

  • Bearings, belts, chains, pulleys, gearboxes.

  • Shafts, rollers, cutting blades.

  • Pumps, compressors, and air systems.

• Work closely with electricians for motor, panel, and VFD issues.

• Maintain spare parts considering local supplier availability and lead time.

3. Grading Accuracy & Packaging Efficiency

• Ensure grading machines separate vegetables and onions accurately by size and quality.

• Support packaging operations to ensure:

  • Correct weight and proper sealing.

  • Minimum damage during handling.

• Reduce processing loss and packaging rejection.

4. Food Safety, Hygiene & Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure cleaning and sanitation of machines as per:

  • Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) guidelines.

  • GAP standards.

• Prevent contamination from onion skin, dust, metal fragments.

• Support internal and external audits (buyer, exporter, regulatory bodies).

5. Safety, Labor Law & Environmental Compliance

• Ensure compliance with:

  • Bangladesh Labor Act 2006 (amended).

  • Factory fire, electrical, and machine safety rules.

• Enforce PPE usage and safe work practices.

• Promote energy-efficient operation to reduce electricity and fuel costs.

• Ensure proper disposal of vegetable and onion waste.

6. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain:

  • Daily machine operation log.

  • Maintenance and breakdown records.

  • Downtime, wastage, and efficiency reports.

• Submit daily and monthly reports to Plant Manager/Manager-Market Development.

• Assist in preparing SOPs in Bangla/English as required.

7. Manpower Supervision & Training

• Supervise machine operators, helpers, and casual labor

• Train workers on:

  • Safe machine operation.

  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting.

  • Hygiene and sanitation practices.

• Ensure discipline, punctuality, and compliance on the shop floor.

• Machine availability (%).

• Breakdown frequency and response time.

• Processing, grading & packaging output vs target.

• Wastage and rejection reduction (%).

• Preventive maintenance compliance.

• Zero accident and safety compliance.
