Job Summery
The Machine Operator- Processing Plant is responsible for the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of all machinery and equipment used in the vegetable and fruit processing plant as well as the onion cold storage facility. The incumbent will ensure optimum machine performance, maintain production efficiency, conduct routine preventive maintenance, troubleshoot minor mechanical and electrical faults, maintain electronic devices and automation systems, and comply with food safety, quality, occupational health & safety, and company operational standards.
Key Role & Responsibilities
A. Machine Operation
Operate all processing machinery efficiently according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Operate machinery used for Vegetable washing, Sorting and grading, Peeling, Cutting and slicing, Drying, Packaging, Weighing, Sealing & Labeling, drying machineries, cold storage equipment, and refrigeration system
Operate material handling equipment and conveyors.
Monitor machine performance continuously during production.
Adjust machine settings according to production requirements.
Ensure uninterrupted production flow.
Perform machine startup and shutdown following safety procedures.
B. Cold Storage Operation
Operate all machinery and equipment of the onion cold storage.
Monitor refrigeration systems and compressors of cool room and pre-cooling room.
Monitor temperature and humidity levels.
Maintain proper cold chain management.
Record temperature and operational parameters.
Coordinate loading and unloading activities.
Ensure optimum storage conditions to minimize post-harvest losses.
C. Equipment Maintenance
Conduct daily inspection of all machinery and equipment.
Perform routine preventive maintenance.
Lubricate machines according to maintenance schedules.
Replace worn-out machine parts whenever necessary.
Identify abnormal machine conditions before major breakdowns occur.
Assist external technicians during major repairs.
Maintain maintenance records and service history.
D. Electronics and Electrical Device Maintenance
Maintain all electronic devices installed in the processing plant.
Monitor electrical control panels.
Inspect sensors, PLCs, relays, timers, and controllers.
Maintain weighing scales and digital measuring devices.
Troubleshoot minor electrical and electronic faults.
Replace damaged electrical components when required.
Coordinate with electrical engineers for major maintenance work.
E. Production Support
Ensure production targets are achieved.
Reduce machine downtime.
Maximize machine efficiency.
Monitor production output.
Minimize material wastage.
Support new production line installation and commissioning.
Participate in production planning discussions when required.
F. Quality Assurance
Ensure machinery operates according to food safety requirements.
Maintain hygienic conditions of all equipment.
Clean machines before and after production.
Prevent contamination during processing.
Follow GAP (Good Agricultural Practices)
Follow GHP (Good Hygiene Practices).
Support HACCP implementation.
Comply with Global G.A.P., ISO, and other applicable quality standards.
G. Occupational Health & Safety
Follow all workplace safety procedures.
Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Report unsafe conditions immediately.
Participate in fire safety and emergency drills.
Ensure machine guards and safety devices remain functional.
Follow Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures during maintenance.
Prevent accidents and unsafe machine operation.
H. Documentation and Reporting
Maintain machine operation logs.
Record production hours.
Record downtime and breakdowns.
Maintain preventive maintenance checklists.
Report machine faults immediately.
Prepare daily operational reports.
Maintain spare parts utilization records.
I. Inventory Support
Monitor spare parts availability.
Maintain lubrication inventory.
Inform supervisors regarding spare parts shortages.
Assist in machinery inventory verification.
Working Conditions
Based at the Vegetable Processing Plant in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha.
Requires working in production and processing environments.
May require emergency response during machinery breakdowns outside regular working hours.
Frequent movement across production, utility, cold storage, and maintenance areas.
Exposure to machinery noise; hearing protection may be required.
Physical Requirements
Physically fit to operate industrial machinery.
Ability to lift and move materials safely.
Good vision and hearing.
Ability to work in cold storage conditions.
Manual dexterity for machine adjustments and maintenance tasks.
Authority
The Machine Operator is authorized to:
Operate all assigned processing machinery.
Stop machinery immediately in case of unsafe operation.
Report safety hazards.
Recommend preventive maintenance.
Request machine servicing.
Reject unsafe equipment for operation.
