Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Sociology, or a related field
Minimum 2-4 years of experience in GBV prevention or gender programming.
At least 1–2 years of experience supervising field teams or community facilitators.
Experience implementing community-based and adolescent-focused prevention programs preferred.
Experience working in humanitarian or refugee contexts is an asset.
Strong understanding of GBV prevention, gender-transformative programming, and community mobilization approaches.
Familiarity with SASA! Together, Girl Shine, or similar models is highly desirable.
Strong facilitation, mentoring, and monitoring skills.
Ability to analyze field challenges and provide practical solutions.
Job Context
The Officer – GBV Prevention is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the quality implementation of GBV prevention programmes, including Girl Shine, SASA! Together, MABE, WELP, and outreach activities. The role focuses on implementation of programs, supervising field teams, strengthening community engagement, and ensuring GBV prevention approaches are rights-based, gender-transformative, and aligned with ActionAid’s feminist principles and humanitarian standards.
Key responsibilities include (not limited to)
1. Program Implementation and Oversight
Implement and oversee day-to-day implementation of GBV prevention programs, including Girl Shine, SASA! Together, MABE, WELP, and outreach initiatives.
Ensure activities are implemented in line with approved work plans, methodologies, and program objectives.
Monitor activity schedules, session delivery, and community engagement processes to ensure quality and consistency.
Identify implementation gaps and provide timely technical and operational support to field teams.
2. Supervision and Team Management
Provide direct supervision, mentoring, and coaching to Associate Officers.
Conduct regular field visits, session observations, conduct and review meetings.
Support performance management, capacity building, and professional development of team members.
Promote staff wellbeing, teamwork, and adherence to self-care practices.
3. Technical Support to GBV Prevention Models
Provide technical guidance on gender-transformative approaches, positive masculinity, adolescent empowerment, and community-led prevention.
Support effective implementation of core programme methodologies, including:
Adolescent girls’ empowerment (Girl Shine)
Community activism and norm change (SASA! Together)
Male engagement and accountability (MABE)
Women’s leadership and empowerment (WELP)
Ensure safe, inclusive, and participatory facilitation practices are applied across activities.
4. Community Engagement and Outreach
Support and supervisor volunteer outreach activities to increase community awareness on GBV prevention, gender equality, and positive social norms.
Strengthen engagement with community leaders, women’s groups, adolescent groups, and male role models.
Ensure meaningful participation of women, girls, men, and boys in prevention initiatives.
Monitor community feedback and adapt approaches accordingly.
5. Coordination and Representation
Coordinate with CiC offices, SMS agencies, and sector partners to ensure compliance with camp-level protocols.
Participate in GBV Sub-Sector meetings and relevant coordination forums as required.
Support referral linkages with GBV response, CP, Health, MHPSS, and Legal services.
6. Monitoring, Reporting, and Learning
Monitor programme indicators and ensure accurate documentation of activities and outputs.
Review reports submitted by Associate Officers and provide feedback for improvement.
Contribute to situation reports, monthly and weekly reports, success stories, and lessons learned.
Support monitoring visits, evaluations, and learning processes related to GBV prevention programming.
7. Safeguarding, Accountability, and Risk Management
Ensure adherence to ActionAid’s Code of Conduct, Safeguarding, and PSEA policies.
Identify and mitigate GBV risks associated with programme activities.
Promote safe and confidential feedback and complaint mechanisms within communities.
Ensure activities are implemented in a manner that prioritizes participant safety and dignity.
