Experience:
Minimum HSC or equivalent qualification. A diploma in Agriculture or Horticulture and Forestry is preferred. BSc (Honors) in botany from any recognized institute will be preceded. Bachelor in any other subject may be considered if s/he has extensive training on nursery management.
At least 2 years of experience in nursery management or a similar field.
Experience in bamboo propagation and plantation projects is highly desirable.

Project Brief: The ‘Bamboo for Climate Resilience/Action (B4CR/A) Project’ is working towards the mitigation of risks emanating from climate change, environmental degradation and natural hazards in an integrated manner through bamboo focused forestation in several Sub-districts and Rohingya Refugee Camps in Cox’s Bazar.
Purpose of for the Position: The Nursery Technician is responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of the nursery by managing the propagation, care, and maintenance of bamboo saplings. This role also includes monitoring seedling germination, maintaining accurate records, Nursery Journal, Stock-Delivery register, Inventory. Labor management, reporting and contributing to the achievement of the nursery`s production goals.
Part I: Job Statement
Each Nursery Technician will be assigned for one nursery which will produce at least 500,000 bamboo seedlings. They will work under the supervision and technical guidance of Nursery Manager in collaboration with the Plantation Officer. The key job responsibility of the Nursery Technician is to ensure that the bamboo plants in the nursery are healthy and well-maintained. He/she will need to have a very good understanding of plant care and propagation techniques, as well as the ability to maintain equipment and tools. His/her goal will be to assist the Bamboo Nursery Manager in running a successful climate smart nursery.
Location: Malumghat Chakaria, Dhechuapalong Ramu, JadimuraTeknaf, of Cox’s Bazar District
Duration of Assignment: From January 1, 2024, to March 31, 2026, (may extend based on performance and availability of fund)
Part II: Job Responsibilities and Tasks
Seedling Management:
Oversee the germination process and ensure the proper and climate smart propagation of bamboo saplings.
Conduct regular inspections of nursery beds to monitor seedling health and growth rates.
Identify and address any pests, diseases, or other issues affecting the seedlings.
Ensure organic inputs in case fertilizing and pest management
Prepare weekly labor requisition, manage workforce with optimum output.
Extend technical assistance to the Project supported existing nurseries.
Keep dive on propagating community asked bamboo species
Initiate research on bamboo propagating methods to recommend best practices by species.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
Maintain detailed records of bamboo culm intake, germination rates, and seedling mortality.
Regularly update stock registers and prepare reports on nursery performance for the Nursery Manager.
Document any discrepancies or losses and assist in investigating their causes.
Maintain Nursery Journal on a regular basis.
Maintenance and Operations:
Supervise daily operations, including watering, fertilizing, and weeding.
Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained and in working order.
Assist in the preparation and management of nursery beds.
Team Coordination:
Provide guidance to laborers and ensure proper/instructed nursery management practices.
Coordinate with the Nursery Manager and Plantation Officer on planning and target achievement.
Facilitate smooth communication and teamwork among nursery staff.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure only healthy and potential seedlings are prepared for distribution.
Participate in quality control checks to avoid misreporting or inaccurate data.
Adhere to organizational policies and project standards.
General
Assist Nursery Manager/Plantation Officer as per his/her requirements.
Ensure safety and well-being of team members and participants.
Promote and endorse safeguarding policy among staff.
Follow reporting procedures for safeguarding related incidents and encourage others to do so
Perform any other task as and when assigned by the Management.
