∎ Key Result #1: Antenatal care and labour support
∎ Monitor and examine women during pregnancy;
∎ Develop, assess and evaluate individual programmes of care;
∎ Provide full antenatal care, including screening tests in the hospital, community and the home;
∎ Identify high risk pregnancies and make referrals to doctors and other medical specialists;
∎ Supervise and assist mothers in labour, monitoring the condition of the foetus and applying knowledge of drugs and pain management;
∎ Liaise with agencies and other health and social care professionals to ensure continuity of care.
∎ Key Result #2: Patient Education
∎ Arrange and provide parenting and health education;
∎ Provide counselling and advice before and after screening and tests;
∎ Offer support and advice following events such as miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, neonatal abnormality and neonatal death;
∎ Give support and advice on the daily care of the baby, including breastfeeding, bathing and making up feeds.
∎ Key Result #3: Supervision and Management
∎ Ensure midwives follow the Government of Bangladesh guidelines, JRRP guidance and other guidance on ethical code of conduct and patient safety;
∎ Liaise with clinic supervisors and other mentors on midwives’ progress and where possible enlist support from doctors with Obstetric experience;
∎ Organize and coordinate midwives’ day to day learning opportunities and activities in the health facilities:
∎ Using knowledge of the midwives stage of learning, advise on selection of appropriate learning opportunities to meet their individual and collective learning needs;
∎ Facilitate the selection of appropriate learning strategies to integrate learning from practice and academic experiences that may be conducted in the camp and or at Cox’s Bazar;
∎ Support new midwives in critically reflecting upon their learning experiences in order to enhance future learning;
∎ Contribute to the evaluation of midwives learning and assessment experiences, proposing any aspects for change resulting from the evaluation;
∎ Facilitate midwife self-evaluation to facilitate their personal development, and contribute to the development of peers.
