Responsibilities & Context:

A Garment Manager (often titled Production Manager, Factory Manager, or Operations Manager in the apparel industry) is responsible for overseeing the entire production process of clothing, ensuring garments are produced on time, within budget, and to the quality standards required by buyers. They bridge the gap between design/merchandising teams and the factory floor.

Core Responsibilities

  • Production Planning: Develop daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules to meet shipment deadlines.

  • Operational Management: Oversee daily operations, including cutting, sewing, finishing, and packing.

  • Quality Control (QC): Ensure 100% compliance with buyer specifications, reducing defect rates, and conducting internal audits before final inspections.

  • Resource Allocation: Optimize machine utilization and labor force to maximize productivity.

  • Technical Support: Evaluate and approve samples (fit, pre-production), handle pattern adjustments, and provide technical guidance on garment construction.

  • Inventory & Logistics: Monitor inventory levels of raw materials (fabrics, trims) and coordinate with supply chain teams to avoid production stoppages.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor floor supervisors, operators, and support staff.
