Responsibilities & Context:

BRAC is an international development organisation founded in Bangladesh in 1972 that partners globally with over 100 million people living with inequality and poverty to create opportunities to realise their potential.

The Manager – Materials Development will lead the design, development, contextualization, and quality assurance of inclusive and culturally relevant play-based learning and caregiver engagement materials for children and families in both host and humanitarian settings. The role supports the implementation of LEGO Foundation supported interventions by ensuring high quality materials that promote early childhood development, learning through play, psychosocial wellbeing, and inclusive participation for children including those with disabilities.

  • Lead the design and development of age appropriate, inclusive, and play-based learning and stimulation materials for children aged 0 to 8 years across host and humanitarian programme interventions.

  • Develop materials that support key programme components including responsive caregiving, early stimulation, play-based learning environments, transition to primary education, and ALP components.

  • Design a variety of engaging learning and play materials such as storybooks, activity cards, puppets, posters, games, puzzles, and facilitator tools aligned with play-based pedagogy and ECD principles.

  • Ensure materials promote children’s holistic development including cognitive, socio emotional, physical, language, and creative development.

  • Contextualize materials to reflect local culture, language, traditions, and child rearing practices of Rohingya refugee and host communities.

  • Ensure all materials are inclusive and accessible for children including those with disabilities and diverse learning needs (SEND).

  • Work closely with programme technical leads, managers, psychologists, curriculum experts, and MERL teams to ensure materials meet developmental, learning, inclusion, and psychosocial objectives.

  • Collaborate with BRAC Head Office technical teams, consultants, and external experts to design and refine high quality programme materials.

  • Pilot and test developed materials in programme sites and gather feedback from facilitators, caregivers, and children to improve usability and effectiveness.

  • Support the preparation of facilitator guides, manuals, and session tools to ensure effective delivery of play based interventions.

  • Support the development of caregiver engagement materials including session guides, communication tools, and behaviour change materials.

  • Maintain proper documentation and version control of all developed learning and programme materials.

  • Revise and update materials based on programme learning, monitoring findings, and evolving programme needs.

  • Promote the development of low cost, locally produced play materials using locally available resources and ensure materials are safe, durable, and suitable for use in resource constrained environments.

  • Ensure all materials align with safeguarding principles and promote safe, nurturing, and inclusive environments for children.

Safeguarding

  • Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme`s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action. 

  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
