Responsibilities & Context:
∎ Collect, analyse, and report on food safety data which includes documenting food quality incidents such as rejections, rework, near misses, and anomalies, ensuring accurate record-keeping for future reference to enhance risk assessment and management in country operations.
∎ Support food safety incident investigations which include conduct regular inspections and spot checks of stored food products, recommend corrective actions to maintain quality, and perform periodic technical assessments of suppliers to ensure compliance with WFP’s quality and safety standards.
∎ Process evidence-based recommendations on controlling measures to mitigate food commodity losses and safety issues, developing tools for rapid response, reviewing sample analysis reports for conformity and safety, and corrective as well as preventive actions as needed.
∎ Assist the training and capacity building of WFP staff, government agencies, and partners on food safety, quality, and fortification, while assisting in the development of aligned training materials and guidelines to enhance food safety and quality knowledge.
∎ Ensure effective warehouse management by supporting logistics in planning, receiving, storing, and delivering food commodities while applying good storage practices.
∎ Support the implementation of a comprehensive Integrated Pest Management (IPM) system to safeguard stored food commodities.
∎ Provide technical support on food fortification and food technology aspects of WFP’s food assistance programs.
∎ Draft follow-up letters, issue visit reports, and provide recommendations on supplier quality assurance and management systems.
∎ Coordinate and liaise with inspection companies and laboratories for inspection, sampling, and analysis of food commodities.
∎ Contribute to the development and implementation of food fortification and food technology protocols, ensuring alignment with WFP procurement and supply chain strategies.
∎ Perform any other duties as assigned.
