Educational Requirements:
∎ HSC (higher school certificate) essential
∎ Desirable: Counseling, social work or other similar degree/diploma
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Actively promote the availability of MSF services
∎ Carry out, individually or in group, basic counseling and/or educational sessions, to patients, their families, hospital staff and/or the community
∎ Refer patients when necessary to other specialists or external actors in order to provide the best available support
∎ Collect and report specific information related to the target group
∎ Keep files and statistics updated about the counseling and/or educational activities
∎ Give testimonies to patients and in the community on own experiences as a patient(*)
∎ MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
∎ General Responsibilities:
∎ To adhere to all mental health ethical standards including: do no harm, serving the best interest of the beneficiary, maintaining confidentiality, obtaining informed consent, and displaying respect for beneficiary choices.
∎ To attend and actively participate in staff meetings, case discussions, clinical supervision, and trainings.
∎ To manage time in a manner that facilitates timely follow-up with beneficiaries.
∎ To collect and maintain data on all psychosocial activities on a weekly/ monthly basis and produce timely reports to the supervisor.
∎ To ensure confidentiality of all psychosocial and medical cases/ records.
∎ To collaborate with the medical team and and partners in ways that safeguard the beneficiary (safety, choices, confidentiality) and enhances outcomes.
∎ To address the protection needs of patients by offering vulnerable patients referral to protection partners.
∎ Psychosocial Activities:
∎ To provide information on relevant mental health issues (sensitization) and how to cope with and manage possible mental health distress (psychoeducation).
∎ To identify beneficiaries who need Psychological First Aid (PFA) and linking patients who need medical or mental helth assistance to appropriate services.
∎ To assist with the organization and provision of group activities (education groups, discussion groups, stimulation activities) in the community, camp, or clinic according to the needs of the beneficiaries and the currently programmatic focus.
∎ Therapeutic Activities:
∎ To provide individual, family, and group counseling under the supervision of the Mental Health Supervisor/ Psychologist Supervision/ Mental Health Activities Manager to support the positive coping strategies of the patients.
∎ To seek supervision and assistance from the Mental Health Supervisor/ Psychologist Supervision/ Mental Health Activities Manager when patients require more advanced psychological assessment and intervention. This includes patients at risk for self-harm, aggressive patients, patients with severe mental health conditions, and patients with protection needs.
