Education:
    • Diploma in Medical Technology
    • Bachelor of Science (BSc)
  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent, recognized by BMDC or DGHS;

  • Higher qualification (BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology or similar) is an advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting is required.

  • Previous work in humanitarian/camp or low-resource settings is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in point of care testing and basic hematology/biochemistry relevant to MCH services.

  • Familiarity with disease surveillance and outbreak testing protocols.

  • Solid understanding of IPC, biosafety and biomedical waste management in a lab environment.

  • Basic computer skills (MS Office, simple data entry).

  • Language: Basic English and Bangla; knowledge of Rohingya/Chittagonian dialect is an asset.

Responsibilities & Context:

Duty Station: Mother & Child Hospital (MCH), Camp 21, Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar

Purpose of the Position

The Assistant Laboratory Technologist is responsible for supporting the provision of accurate, timely, and high-quality laboratory services at the Mother & Child Hospital (MCH), Camp 21. Working in a CEmOC-capable humanitarian setting serving Rohingya and host communities, the position will:

  • Assist in conducting routine and emergency laboratory tests for maternal, newborn, paediatric, and adult patients in line with hospital protocols and quality standards.

  • Support proper sample collection, processing, documentation, and reporting under the supervision of the Laboratory Technologist.

  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control (IPC), biosafety standards, and biomedical waste management procedures.

  • Support smooth laboratory operations through coordination with clinicians, nurses, pharmacy, and support teams.

The position works under the guidance of the Laboratory Technologist or supervisor and does not have formal supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in collecting, receiving, labeling, and processing biological specimens (blood, urine, stool, sputum, swabs, etc.) following standard IPC and laboratory safety protocols.

  • Support routine and emergency laboratory testing including haemoglobin, blood glucose, urine routine examination, rapid diagnostic tests, and other basic investigations according to facility capacity.

  • Prepare laboratory materials, reagents, and equipment required for testing procedures.

  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of specimens and reagents according to SOPs.

  • Support timely processing and reporting of laboratory results, especially for emergency and critical cases.

  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain laboratory equipment and work areas according to established procedures.

  • Assist in calibration and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and promptly report any malfunction or damage.

  • Maintain laboratory registers, logbooks, and reporting formats accurately while ensuring confidentiality of patient information.

  • Support stock monitoring of reagents, consumables, PPE, and laboratory supplies; inform the supervisor about shortages or expiry risks.

  • Ensure proper storage conditions for laboratory reagents and samples, including maintaining temperature logs where required.

  • Strictly follow IPC protocols, including hand hygiene, PPE use, sharps safety, and decontamination procedures.

  • Segregate and dispose of laboratory and biohazardous waste according to facility and Health Sector guidelines.

  • Support disease surveillance, outbreak response activities, and specimen referral processes when required.

  • Coordinate with Medical Officers, Nurses, Midwives, CHWs, Pharmacists, and other staff to ensure smooth laboratory service delivery.

  • Participate in trainings, refresher sessions, and capacity-building activities related to laboratory services, biosafety, IPC, and humanitarian standards.

  • Perform any other relevant tasks assigned by the supervisor to ensure effective laboratory operations.



Job Other Benifits:

    Monthly Gross Salary: BDT 40,910 /= (Only)

    Bonus and other benefits: 10% of the monthly gross salary.

    Other Benefits: Office hours, annual leave, increments, will be provided as per the organizational policy and Recruitment & Human Resource Management Policy of Partners in Health and Development (PHD), subject to project budget availability.
