∎ The Activity Information:
∎ ACDI/VOCA, a leading international development organization, based in Washington, D.C., is currently implementing a $19.5 million, five-year program entitled "Feed the Future Bangladesh Livestock and Nutrition Activity" funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Through the Feed the Future Bangladesh Livestock and Nutrition Activity, USAID/Bangladesh seeks to impact rural household nutrition by improving the utilization of livestock products, and food security. The Feed the Future Bangladesh Livestock Production and Nutrition Activity aims to increase livestock productivity through increased access to better livestock management techniques and primary animal healthcare services, improve access of rural households to hygienic, diverse, and quality food in order to enhance nutrition and health status, especially of women and children.
∎ POSITION SUMMARY:
∎ ACDI/VOCA is seeking an experienced Food Science Team Lead for an anticipated USAID-funded Livestock and Nutrition Activity in Bangladesh.?The program will increase livestock productivity, marketability and consumption of livestock products including dairy products within the Feed the Future Zone of Influence. The Food Science Team Lead will provide technical contributions and oversight in attaining project goals and objectives through food science and output market interventions with relevant actors.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Provide technical contributions and oversight in attaining project goals and objectives through food science and output market interventions
∎ Support public and private sector actors in the dairy and meat value chains to incorporate processing best practices and innovations into their processing and marketing operations
∎ Identify livestock output market opportunities and build livestock processors' capacities to meet potential emerging markets
∎ Develop food science training materials and/or facilitate trainings to public and private sector actors
∎ Support public and private sector actors in dairy and meat value chains to more effectively meet and maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation during procurement, processing, and marketing activities
∎ Build capacity of project staff in food science and food safety best practices and innovations
∎ Provide technical leadership and oversight for food science-focused initiatives
∎ Improve linkages among MSME Dairy Processors, Local Milk Collectors, and Dairy Farmer Groups to improve milk quality & sales.
∎ Translate relevant technical expertise into effective capacity building of target participants, like livestock MSMEs. Process oriented development and implementation of approaches building the technical and food safety capacity of MSMEs.
∎ Lead approaches to engage with government institutions, like BSTI and BFSA, to advocate on particular livestock issues and/or work to increase their capacity and foster relationship with the most important partners.
∎ Facilitation strategies/ leverage points to engage BSTI to support Livestock MSMEs.
∎ To support women led dairy MSMEs and their production diversification, marketing as well as safety standards.
∎ Key strategies to improve access and availability of diversified dairy and meat products for rural households who do not rear livestock?
∎ Enhancing technical, financial & management capacities of MSMEs to improve types of diversified livestock products and market them, based on diversification types, direct experience on certification etc.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Minimum 7 years of experience working in managing and implementing food sciences or output market related activities
∎ Track record of achieving project objectives in a context of similar scope and challenges
∎ Experience with USAID and/or any other international donor funded project desired.
∎ Demonstrated supervisory experience with teams and professional groups in a cross-cultural environment
∎ Fluency in Bangla and English is required.
∎ Experience in Bangladesh and ability to travel throughout the South West region required.
