Job Purpose
The Electrical Technician will be responsible for installation, inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, solar street lighting (SSL), generators, and electrical systems in field offices and project locations. The role ensures reliable power supply, compliance with safety standards, and sustainability of energy assets across host and camp settings.
Primary Responsibilities
Install, commission, and maintain on-grid, off-grid, and hybrid solar PV systems.
Install and maintain solar street lighting systems (SSLs) on a regular schedule.
Connect and configure solar panels, inverters, MPPT charge controllers, batteries, SPDs, breakers, and protection devices.
Perform DC/AC wiring, MC4 connections, proper earthing, and cable dressing as per approved design.
Mount structures and fix panels according to technical layout drawings.
Conduct battery voltage checks, charging status verification, and overall system performance monitoring.
Diagnose and repair faults in panels, batteries, charge controllers, inverters, and associated components.
Test, troubleshoot, and verify system performance after installation or repair.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of solar-powered systems.
Inspect, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, distribution boards, switches, breakers, and electrical components in camp and office facilities.
Diagnose and repair faults in generators and backup power systems.
Ensure proper functioning of electrical supply systems.
Replace damaged wiring, switches, and protective components when required.
Support preparation and review of single-line diagrams, connection diagrams, and basic load calculations.
Conduct site assessments and system inspections to ensure compliance with approved standards.
Supervise volunteers and field workers during installation and maintenance activities.
Identify and report technical issues, system faults, and performance gaps to the supervisor.
Maintain spare parts inventory for solar lighting systems and ensure availability of critical components.
Maintain accurate records of installation, inspections, repairs, and maintenance works.
Prepare periodic technical progress updates and maintenance reports.
Document system performance data and corrective actions taken.
Support beneficiary verification and intervention area validation where required.
Ensure strict compliance with electrical safety standards and local regulations.
Follow approved technical designs and specifications.
Adhere to safeguarding policies, environmental standards, and organizational Code of Conduct.
Promote a safe working environment and report any safeguarding concerns following established procedures.
Respond promptly to complaints related to non-functioning streetlights or electrical systems.
