∎ Chemonics International seeks a Consultant, Monitoring Facilitator for the USAID Ecosystems / Protibesh Activity which is a 5-year project that is funded by USAID/Bangladesh. The activity aims to build the Government of Bangladesh`s (GOB) capacity to respond to a wide array of threats to biodiversity conservation in collaboration with civil society organizations and community stakeholders. It will also engage local partners in the effective management, protection, and governance of critical forest and aquatic ecosystems while advancing economic incentives to further biodiversity conservation. These partners include relevant Government agencies, NGOs, universities, and a broad range of private sector actors. This activity will target local communities in regions with key biodiversity areas, which include the Sundarbans Reserve Forest in southwestern Bangladesh, the ecologically critical forest and wetland zones of northeastern Bangladesh, and/or other regions. The activity seeks to strengthen environmental governance, address key threats to biodiversity, and advance market-based incentives for sustainable natural resource management.
∎ This Consultant will add to a collaborative, multidisciplinary team to help citizens, community groups, and others working on environmental issues in Bangladesh for implementing digital platform. The position entails an understanding of technology with a commitment to facilitate citizens for reporting and documenting environmental issues. You will gain a deep understanding of relevant technologies and support organizations and individuals that are not necessarily digitally literate. The focus of the position will be support to project`s work with "TIMBY" (a partner to Protibesh), a simple app and digital platform allowing citizens and others to document and report their observations to concerned authorities in key biodiversity areas in which the project is working. Timby will initially work in the Hakaluki Haor ECA - as a pilot site with potentials to replicate in other selected KBAs. The position will be based in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar with frequent travels to other locations including Dhaka.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ As a consultant, be the project focal point for the TIMBY citizen monitoring and reporting system
∎ Help identify potential system users and help build awareness of the system and its uses and benefits
∎ Review/assess monitoring reports received in the system and work with other staff for next steps
∎ Help manage relationships between Protibesh and partner groups using the TIMBY digital technology
∎ Provide support (workshops, training) to partner groups and the general public and help develop custom training materials
∎ Provide feedback (new feature requests/bugs/posters/manuals) to the TIMBY development team
∎ Conduct desk research to understand environmental reporting needs in Bangladesh
∎ Prepare analysis and reports as needed on system operation, monitoring results, and findings
∎ Facilitate citizen reports in the platform to competent GoB authorities concerned to respective KBAs.

Additional Requirements:
∎ Understanding and experience working with communities, including indigenous groups, on biodiversity conservation and environmental issues
∎ Experience and basic skills in IT/internet/social media/Android technology
∎ Ability to work independently and with remote project teams as well as NR dependent communities
∎ Excellent communication, training, and representation skills in Bangla and in English, especially in writing
∎ Demonstrated experience with TIMBY desirable.
