About the Project:
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) partnered with BRAC, initiated “Jameel Observatory Climate Resilient Early Warning System Network (JO-CREWSnet)” - an integrated decision-support system that will empower frontline vulnerable communities to proactively adapt to climate change. JO-CREWSnet puts cutting-edge climate forecasting technology directly into the hands of individuals; to show how future climate and extreme weather patterns will impact their lives. This technology, combined with access to innovative power, water, agriculture and financing services, will empower families, communities and government agencies to make and implement informed, proactive decisions about how to adapt to this changing world.
The project locations are (I). Munshiganj Union, Shyamnagar Upazila, Satkhira District, (ii). Baradal Union, Assashuni Upazila, Satkhira District, and (iii). Satbaria Union, Keshabpur Upazila, Jashore District; and the project focus areas are, 1. Housing & Shelters: Systems analysis for multi-use, multi-purpose shelters from intensifying cyclones and heat stress, 2. Water Security Improving access to potable water through rain water harvesting and desalination techniques, 3. Agriculture and Livelihoods: Assessment of climate impacts on land use and farming decisions, incorporation of new climate science findings in proactive community adaptation efforts. A virtual platform that is designed to connect JO-CREWSnet principal investigators and researchers with policy makers and planners at key civil-service institutions in Bangladesh. The Adaptation Center (AC) is envisioned to interact closely with planners in Bangladesh to empower them to achieve effective and proactive climate-change adaptation in southwest Bangladesh and at the national level. This project will end by June 2027.
Position: Climate and Environmental Specialist, Climate Change Programme (Project Staff)
Job Purpose: The position is responsible to conduct environmental impact assessments and climate risk analyses, contribute to climate and environmental modeling, and ensure continuous review of relevant literature to keep project teams informed with updated knowledge. Additionally, the role facilitates effective communication of environmental and climate information to local communities in accessible language, supports environmental governance planning, and actively participates in local-level project implementation. It also involves preparing documentation, reports, and communication materials to ensure proper knowledge sharing and project monitoring.
Job Description:
Analysing the local environment and climate change information required by the project.
Develop a data base of the environmental elements of the project areas, specifically the climate vulnerable coast
Environmental impact assessment and climate risk analysis as per project requirements.
Support in running climate/environmental modelling.
Literature review on the environment and climatic data and keep the research and implementation team aware of the updated information
Communicate the environmental and climatic information with the community in an easy language.
Provide support to activity planning on environmental governance.
Active participation in local-level planning and execution.
Documentation, Article writing and communique development.
Prepare monthly, periodic, need-based reports.

Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the programme’s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.
