  • Minimum 5 years working experience with NGOs or international development organizations in areas of waste management, environmental resilience, circular economy and urban WASH.

  • Additional Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to work in development projects

  • Knowledge of the legal and institutional context and frameworks for environmental policy, circular economy, and sustainability issues in Bangladesh Project implementation and capacity building competencies.

  • Strong collaborative leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, including proven ability to develop and communicate a common vision among diverse partners and lead a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Problem-solving mindset

About the Project:

BRAC intends to implement an upcoming project to establish the foundation for a sustainable, inclusive, and operationally efficient solid waste management system in Pabna Municipality. The project will support targeted interventions aimed at strengthening the overall urban waste management ecosystem, including improving waste containment and collection systems, enhancing the capacity of waste workers, promoting behaviour change, and expanding community-based resource recovery and recycling systems. The duration of this project will be for one year.

Position: City Coordinator; Urban Development Programme (Project Staff)

Job Purpose: The City Coordinator will oversee and coordinate all UDP interventions at the city level. The role involves maintaining effective communication and coordination with local government bodies and other key stakeholders. S/he will be responsible for implementing sustainable waste solutions, strengthening community-level waste infrastructure, and coordinating with municipal authorities. Their purpose is to bridge the gap between waste generators, informal waste actors and formal city waste disposal systems by organizing, managing, and sustaining local collection, segregation and recycling practices.

Job Description:

  • Act as project point of contact at the local level for government authorities, donor and other stakeholders.

  • Support in developing a comprehensive strategy to engage with local stakeholders, including community groups (e.g., waste workers, recyclers), recycling businesses, and government organizations.

  • Network and liaison with administrator/ mayor, ward councilor’s, municipality officials, local community leaders, and other stakeholders for ensuring coordinated service delivery.

  • Take the lead in implementing waste reduction strategies at the community and stakeholder level. Oversee and guide effective local stakeholder engagement through on-ground activities and advocacy; monitor and suggest necessary changes for effective engagement.

  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with local community leaders, businesses, government officials, and environmental organizations.

  • Facilitate training and incentive schemes for the waste collectors and recyclers.

  • Manage the budget allocated for waste management programmes effectively.

  • Oversee the planning and administration of and/or conduct special events, e.g. behavior change intervention, campaigns, workshops, trainings, and other events.

  • SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the programme’s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.

  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.
