• 3-5 years of professional experience developing backend applications in Java, including full ownership of features within a production service.

• Demonstrated proficiency with Spring Boot, including dependency injection, REST controller design, service layer architecture, transaction management, configuration, and exception handling, along with a working understanding of the framework's underlying behavior.

• Strong command of SQL and relational database concepts, including joins, indexing, transactions, and isolation levels, with the ability to interpret query execution plans and diagnose performance issues.

• Practical experience with ORM frameworks (JPA/Hibernate), including entity mapping, fetch strategies, lazy loading, and awareness of common pitfalls such as the N + 1 query problem.

• Experience designing REST APIs consumed by external or internal clients, with attention to versioning, pagination, structured error handling, and backward compatibility.

• A demonstrated commitment to automated testing practices, including proactive development of unit and integration tests.

• Proficiency with Git and pull-request-based collaborative workflows, including the ability to provide meaningful code review.

• Strong written communication skills and the ability to read and comprehend technical documentation in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Docker, message/event-driven architecture patterns, caching strategies, or scheduled job processing.

• Prior exposure to POS, ERP, e-commerce, fintech, or other domains requiring financial reconciliation.

• Familiarity with Testcontainers or comparable tools for integration testing against real databases.

• Experience with schema migration tooling and strategies for evolving database structures without service downtime.

• Working knowledge of a front-end framework (e.g., React or Next.js), sufficient to collaborate effectively with front-end developers on API contract issues.

• Experience mentoring or onboarding other developers, whether in a formal or informal capacity.

Technical Environment

Zolo Inc. is seeking an experienced Backend Developer to design, build, and take ownership of REST APIs for our POS and business-portal products. The successful candidate will work directly on core domain logic - including orders, menus, pricing, discounts, tax, and payments - where accuracy and attention to detail are essential. This is a hands-on engineering position offering genuine ownership of features, from the initial requirements stage through implementation, testing, and review.
Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain ownership of REST APIs in Java / Spring Boot for POS and business-portal features, managing the full lifecycle from requirements definition through contract design, implementation, testing, and review.

• Develop and maintain domain logic for orders, menus, pricing, discounts, tax, and payment processing, ensuring accuracy across all calculations and edge cases.

• Own the data layer, including schema design, migrations that can be safely executed against live production data, entity mapping, and queries that remain performant as data volume grows.

• Write comprehensive automated tests, including unit tests and integration tests against a live database, ensuring tests provide meaningful verification rather than superficial coverage.

• Implement and extend the organization's authorization model, including role-based and tenant/branch-level access scoping, across all endpoints.

• Investigate and resolve production issues by reproducing the problem, implementing a fix, adding a regression test, and addressing the underlying cause rather than the isolated symptom.

• Provide substantive, constructive code review feedback to peers.

• Support front-end integration for minor feature changes, collaborating with front-end developers and leveraging Al tooling to maintain development velocity.

• Contribute to the definition and documentation of backend engineering conventions and best practices.
