Educational Requirements:
∎ Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science (specialization in Genetics and Breeding) with 4 years relevant work experience in modern breeding methodologies and breeding informatics
∎ Master's degree in Genetics and Breeding with 2 years relevant work experience in modern breeding methodologies and breeding informatics
∎ Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. degree in Genetics, Plant Breeding, or Molecular Breeding and excellent research experience working at an international research organization.
Job Context:
∎ Job Purpose: This position will be responsible for conducting breeding trials in the field, research in the lab and train the manpower of partners for the IRRI-PPP project. Also to develop breeding strategies, protocol and project related activities.
∎ This position will be based at the Country Office Bangladesh and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Bangladesh.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Purpose:
∎ Contribute to the development and implementation of private partners research including reviewing related literature
∎ Exchange conceptual ideas with collaborating partners and seek feedback
∎ Coordinate with collaborating partners on their research requirements and provide logistical support
∎ Verify suggested methodologies and establish parameters
∎ Select adequate research tools and equipment
∎ Assist the research technicians in identifying assign tasks/responsibilities
∎ Coordinate the required services and supplies for rice breeding activities
∎ Engagement:
∎ Provide technical assistance and guidelines to project staff and partners in implementing experiment(s)
∎ Assign, monitor and evaluate partners research activities/tasks performed by Researchers, Research Technicians and Contract Workers
∎ Maintain smooth relationship with partners and foster a productive teamwork environment
∎ Assist in developing standard research protocol
∎ Summarize and validate data using appropriate advanced statistical tools independently
∎ Assist in the interpretation of results in relation to laboratory experiments
∎ Make recommendations for further research
∎ Assure maintenance of accurate data recording
∎ Update database for efficient storage and retrieval of information
∎ Delivery:
∎ Summarize research findings and draft manuscripts for publication in refereed journals
∎ Take part in developing suitable rice breeding strategies in close coordination with the partners Molecular Experts and breeders
∎ Lead in developing training materials and provide breeding training to the field Research Officers of partner organization
∎ Contribute in preparing annual progress reports for the project
∎ Prepare posters and papers for presentation at local and international conferences
∎ Ensure the logistics are appropriate for defined purpose
∎ Identify resource persons and prepare necessary supplies
∎ Draft training material using readily available published information (i.e. protocols, methodology)
∎ Supervise Research Officer and Research Technicians
∎ Carry out performance appraisals of Research Officer/Research Technicians
∎ Contribute to the professional development of Research Officer/Research Technicians
∎ Facilitate timely transfer of germplasm from IRRI HQ and contribute in laboratory based activities
∎ Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time
Additional Requirements:
∎ Has proven technical proficiency in conducting breeding research experiments
∎ Experience working on inbred and hybrid rice varietal development
∎ Has strong oral and written communication skills
∎ Has strong analytical skills
∎ Has some experience with quality assurance
∎ Has some experience with research management
∎ Has good presentation skills
∎ Has excellent computer skills
Salary: Tk. 54883 - 101167 (Monthly)
Compensation & Other Benefits:
∎ Housing Allowance: 30% of base pay per month, Transport Allowance: BDT 12,000, Festival Bonus: 2 times each year, Contributory Provident Fund (CPF), Returning Mother Allowance: BDT 2,000 per month for 9 months to female employees post-delivery of a baby to support return to the workplace, Medical insurance coverage: maximum US$16,000/year and other admissible benefits
