∎ Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or a closely related field is required. A Master's Degree is preferred, but applicants with extensive relevant work experience will be considered equally.

∎ Minimum 5 years of professional working experience in the field of Marine Conservation, Protected Area Management, or Coastal Resource Management.
∎ Understanding of marine ecology, fisheries, and biodiversity conservation practices.
∎ Experience working with coastal or fishing communities and local governance structures.
∎ Familiarity with MPA management tools, participatory approaches, and marine zoning.
∎ Strong report writing, coordination, and community facilitation skills.
∎ Good physical condition and willingness to conduct fieldwork in remote and marine environments.
∎ GIS and remote sensing knowledge (e.g., QGIS), knowledge of SMART patrolling
∎ Experience with biodiversity monitoring tools (e.g., reef check, seagrass assessments).
∎ Knowledge of marine-related laws, policies, and conventions (e.g., IUCN, CBD).
∎ Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
∎ Capable of managing multiple priorities independently, demonstrating a problem-solving mindset with strong attention to details.
∎ Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools. Hands-on experience with digital data systems, various communication tools, and modern IT systems is essential.
∎ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both Bengali and English, with a proven ability to engage effectively across diverse cultural environments.
∎ Willingness to travel regularly to project sites, including rural or underserved areas, and work in remote coastal or island communities.

Responsibilities & Context:
∎ Managing an area of responsibility that forms part of the programme objectives, team agreements and/or agreements with the superior.
∎ Assisting project/programme initiatives to provide professional advisory services to and cooperate with a broad range of target groups.
∎ Advise supervisor on all tasks when implementing GIZ rules and regulations.
∎ Advise supervisor in the field of project planning, steering and monitoring.
∎ Independently implement goals and requirements set by the line manager.
∎ Make decisions which have a short-term effect within a limited project area/ unit.
∎ Assist supervisor to identify day to day problems and suggest appropriate solution.
∎ Responsible for a work package of the project on engaging supporting the effective planning, implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of activities within Marine Protected Areas
∎ Coordinating with local communities, enforcement authorities, scientists, and stakeholders to ensure the sustainable use and conservation of marine resources.
∎ Assist in the development and implementation of MPA management plans, zoning schemes, and regulations.
∎ Support enforcement of MPA rules and regulations in collaboration with law enforcement, fisheries, and local authorities.
∎ Monitor ecological and socio-economic indicators to assess the health and effectiveness of the MPA.
∎ Engage with local communities, fishers, tourism operators, and other stakeholders to promote co-management and compliance.
∎ Lead or support awareness-raising campaigns and capacity-building activities for local stakeholders on MPA objectives and benefits.
∎ Maintain up-to-date records of patrol logs, infractions, biological monitoring data, and stakeholder engagement activities.
∎ Prepare technical and progress reports for donors, partners, and management teams.
∎ Contribute to research, biodiversity surveys, and reporting to national or regional MPA networks.
∎ Promote sustainable tourism and livelihood alternatives compatible with conservation goals.
∎ GIZ Bangladesh is currently seeking applications for the position of “Advisor- Forestry & Biodiversity” from candidates under "Connect’’ Project. This role will play a key part in a project work package, focusing on supporting the effective planning, implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of activities within Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). The Advisor will be responsible for coordinating with local communities, enforcement authorities, scientists, and other stakeholders to ensure the sustainable use and conservation of marine resources. This will involve helping to maintain ecological integrity, promote sustainable livelihoods, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations within MPAs.
