Job Context:
∎ Background

∎ Samaj Kallayan O Unnayan Shangstha (SKUS) envisions a peaceful, prosperous and poverty-free society that ensures everyone`s basic needs and rights. SKUS has since the 2017 Rohingya refugee influx worked in Cox`s Bazar district with children and adolescents. SKUS works to provide access to learning opportunities in a safe and protective environment, offer quality teaching/learning and increase refugee/host community participation and engagement in children`s education. Based on children`s and adolescents` rights, SKUS has established quality learning and protection centres with support from different international donors, including UN agencies. SKUS has an agreement with UNICEF for the project of Education for Rohingya Children at Rohingya Camp in Ukhia Upazila under Cox`s Bazar District. SKUS is looking for a suitable candidate for the immediate appointment of Accounts Officer for the project as mentioned above, supported by UNICEF.

∎ Purpose of the job

∎ Under the guidance of the Senior Finance Officer, the Accounts Officer is responsible Maintain books of accounts of the project and ensure smooth functioning of the accounting systems and record-keeping of the project amongst other responsibilities (see below).

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Maintain books of accounts of the project and ensure the smooth functioning of the accounting systems and record-keeping of the project.
∎ Store and preserve all the valuable and necessary documents and records related to project accounting.
∎ Maintain Accounting Software (Tally ) for Project Accounts and update regular posting, where necessary.
∎ Report on the daily cash balance.
∎ Maintain Fixed Asset Register and Stock Registers of project.
∎ Preserve all project-related documents/ records/ data, including hard and soft copy back-up.
∎ Assist and cooperate in internal and external audits of the project.
∎ Travel to project areas to ensure the implementation of the accounting practices and policies, purchasing practices, vendors, assets, petty cash spending, waste, possible fraud, and other concerns of the finance and department and the SKUS management
∎ Support for administrative affairs of the project, especially with regards to the procurement of goods, materials, equipment and staff matters.
∎ Prepare monthly , quarterly and annual report as per donor and organization requirement
∎ Calculation of VDS & TDS etc. and depositing to the bank through TR challan
∎ Prepare payment to the vendors with proper approval from appropriate authority through following SKUS's Procurement Policy.


Additional Requirements:
∎ Age at least 40 years
∎ Both males and females are allowed to apply
∎ Duration of the contract: 1 Year (possibility of extension )

∎ Experience :
∎ 3 years of experience in a similar accounting position in any recognised organisation.
∎ Good verbal and written English and Bangla communication skills.
∎ Knowledge on Chittagong or Cox's Bazar local language is an advantage.
∎ Knowledge about VAT and TAX rules

∎ Knowledge :
∎ Knowledge of UN accounting systems
∎ Tally Software

∎ Skills :
∎ Good oral and written communication skills in both Bangla and English.
∎ Good knowledge of the local language (Chattagram and Cox's Bazar).
∎ Intermediate knowledge of computer software, particularly on MS Excel, MS Word (both Bangla & English).

∎ Abilities :
∎ Open to taking on additional tasks as required to meet project goals and objectives.
∎ Ability to adapt to changing situations.
∎ Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

∎ Other characteristics such as personal characteristics
∎ Strict moral code and non-compromising attitude towards corruption and embezzlement.
∎ Enthusiastic and empathetic.
∎ Willingness to improve own knowledge and skills by participating actively in any training sessions and capacity building activities.

∎ Working Conditions :
∎ The Accounts Officer is based at SKUS's project office located at Ukhiya of Cox's Bazar.
∎ She/he will spend approximately 20% of his/her time in the field.
∎ She/he may have contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals.

Salary: Tk. 40000 (Monthly)
