Education:
    • HSC

Required Educational Qualification:

  • Minimum HSC passed. Certification in Tailoring & Dressmaking or a related field from a reputed NSDA, TVET, or BTEB-affiliated institute is preferred.

Experience:

  • At least 2-3 years of experience in Tailoring & Dressmaking and vocational training with a focus on skills development.
  • Strong knowledge of pattern-making, cutting, stitching, and garment construction techniques.
  • Understanding of cultural sensitivities and willingness to work in challenging environments.
  • Knowledge of income-generating activities and small-scale business models is an advantage.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of pattern-making, cutting, stitching, and other relevant technical expertise
  • Manage and maintain sewing machines and other equipment.
  • Strong facilitation and mentoring skills for diverse groups.
  • Strong understanding of training methodologies, session planning, income generation, business development, and market linkage
  • Experience in facilitating workshops, mentoring, and capacity-building activities.
  • Ability to develop training modules and implement skill development programs.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire learners
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Additional requirement:

  • Prior experience working in refugee camps or humanitarian settings is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Gender sensitivity and familiarity with humanitarian principles and human rights-based approaches.
  • Proficiency in local languages (Chittagonian dialect) Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills, with the ability to adapt to diverse learning styles.


Responsibilities & Context:

Samaj Kalyan O Unnayan Shangstha (SKUS) envisions a peaceful, prosperous, and poverty-free society that ensures everyone's basic needs and rights. SKUS has since the 2017 Rohingya refugee influx worked in Cox's Bazar district with children, adolescents, women, and men.

For this position, SKUS is seeking a motivated and technically sound Skill Development Trainer in Tailoring & Dressmaking for the Means to Lead project to deliver vocational/formal/informal training to women and girls in the host community and Rohingya refugee camps. The trainer will be responsible for conducting skill development sessions, fostering income-generating opportunities, and empowering participants with life skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in facilitating vocational/formal/informal Tailoring & dressmaking training in Rohingya and the host community including assisting sample design development, handicraft production, training facilitation, market linkage, income-generating initiatives, and community engagement. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging and effective training sessions on various aspects of tailoring and dressmaking, including pattern making, cutting, stitching, garment construction, finishing techniques, and machine operation.
  • Develop and implement training modules, session plans, and practical demonstrations.
  • Ensure training sessions are engaging, participatory, and tailored to the needs of the participants.
  • Clear understanding of training, session plan development, income generation, and business plan.
  • Select and form training groups from the host community and Rohingya refugee camps.
  • Provide counseling and life skills training to participants to enhance their personal and professional development.
  • Conduct home visits to engage with participants and their families, ensuring inclusivity and community involvement.
  • Prepare requisitions for raw materials, tools, and equipment required for training.
  • Maintain and manage training materials and equipment, ensuring proper usage and upkeep.
  • Distribute training wages or stipends to participants as per project guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and track participant progress.
  • Prepare regular reports on training activities, participant outcomes, and success stories.
  • Document challenges and lessons learned to improve program delivery.
  • Collaborate with local community leaders, stakeholders, and project teams to ensure smooth implementation of activities.
  • Promote gender sensitivity, inclusivity, and adherence to humanitarian principles in all activities.
  • Support trainees in developing their own handicraft products, tailoring products and exploring potential market opportunities.
  • Handling training instrument and material for example Sewing machine, relevant parts, operating process and raw material required for training.
  • Identify the market price for selling the produced item.

Reporting:

The Skill Development Trainer will report on: training update, learners profile, use of relevant inventory and stock, learners feedback, best practices, and success story directly to the livelihoods training and production expert of SKUS and center manager.
