∎ Duration : Fixed term contract till 31 March 2022, subject to funding, with strong possibility for extension
∎ Start Date : ASAP
∎ For Rohingya Response in Cox`s Bazar, we are currently producing several multimedia outputs and communication tools targeting both Rohingya and host community. Therefore, we are seeking a Translator to ensure high standard delivery of existing commitments in Rohingya language and to support the team for delivering all outputs in authentic Rohingya language for the Rohingya emergency response works. S/he will ensure transferring the scripts and texts from Bangla/English to Rohingya finding the balance between figurative and literal meanings.
∎ Overall purpose:
∎ S/he will work within the production team, to ensure that all the communication materials, scripts and other instructions are translated and delivered in proper dialect and in accordance with cultural context of Rohingya community or host community. Reporting to the Senior Copy Editor s/he will be working in different stages of production like translation, accompanying filming/recording, and editing to make sure all the outputs are appropriate in terms of language and in accordance with BBC Media Action`s high creative standards and editorial requirements.
∎ S/he needs to be fluent Bangla, Rohingya and Chittagonian dialect and capture both the technical and intended meaning, considering style, tone, slang, and figurative communication and must have good understanding of cultural context of the Rohingya and local host community.
∎ The post is based in Cox`s Bazar, but s/he needs to travel to production locations across the country, as necessary. In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Translate the provided materials from Bangla/English to Rohingya or in Chittagonian language in timely manner, according to the schedule and deadlines provided by the assignor from BBC Media Action.
∎ To provide translation assistance with pre-production, filming/recording and post-production for allocated packages or episodes and working closely with episode directors/producers.
∎ To ensure that all produced contents are in line with Rohingya culture and heritage.
∎ To visit or communicate over the phone for arranging contributors and/or relevant personnel as per requirements of production team.
∎ To interpret Rohingya language to Bangla or vice versa while taking vox-pops, interviews etc. in the camp or over phone.
∎ Incorporate any feedback given by the manager if necessary.
∎ To attend recces, filming locations and self-recording casting activities to ensure proper Rohingya dialect.
∎ If required, to source potential contributors both from Rohingya community and host community for radio and multimedia production.

Additional Requirements:

∎ Good understanding of Rohingya/Chittagonian language and ability to translate any materials in these languages E
∎ Good spoken Rohingya language and written Bangla/ English language skills. E
∎ Excellent typing speed for both Bangla and English. E
∎ Good communication skills and the ability to establish positive working relations with a wide range of contacts. E
∎ Strong understanding of gender-related needs and concerns within humanitarian and displacement contexts. E
∎ Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to form and maintain effective working relationships. D
∎ Good organisational and time management skills, with the proven ability to priorities, work independently and maintain attention to detail. E
∎ Functional understanding of safeguarding principles and commitment to follow BBC Media Action's Code of Conduct and safeguarding policy D
∎ Proven experience of working with Rohingya and host communities and working in camps. E
∎ Some experience in production or in humanitarian communication / community engagement activities D
