Educational Requirements:
∎ Bachelor degree in any discipline
∎ Engineering Degree on Mechanical/Automobile/Power/Electrical &Electronics/Machine Tools and related fields.
∎ Good English writing, analytical and communication skills.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Lead and Coordinate R&D works related to development of more efficient technologies and equipment
∎ a. Explore and identify potential appropriate and context specific technologies in faecal sludge, solid waste and thin plastic waste management works that meets the national standards and local context.
∎ b. Coordinate and lead the existing R&D on the upgradation of existing FSM & SWM related technologies that Practical Action has adopted.
∎ c. Explore and ensure technical expertise on designing, development, operations, performance feedback assessment and associated upgradation of end product processing equipment from waste and sanitation value chain in Bangladesh.
∎ Coordinate and ensure technical expertise in developing private sector led FSM, SWM and thin plastic waste management associated equipment
∎ a. Provide technical assistance in designing, development, installation, troubleshooting, modifications and upgradations of different low cost equipment for emptying, collection, transportation of faecal sludge, solid waste and thin plastic waste management.
∎ b. Provide technical support to private sectors for the commercialization of pit emptying devices and vehicles, solid waste and plastic waste carrying vehicles.
∎ c. Regular monitoring and checking the quality of raw materials as feedstock and the outcome products, i.e., CBG, Pyrolysis Oil, Black Carbons etc. and collection of the data for further recording purpose.
∎ d. S/he needs to maintain close contact with the local mechanical workshop or vendors for any kind emergency requirements of the parts for equipment purposes maintain the policy and procurement rules of Practical Action.
∎ e. S/he needs to provide technical (mechanical) supports to the partners working in the project areas based on their requirements related to mechanical engineering works
∎ f. Preparation of all required Tender documents, including purchase of any parts required for the equipment or the plants etc.
∎ g. When it is found necessary, the Mechanical Engineer will be requested to Follow-up technically on the implementation of the identified projects by assisting the technical unit for both projects in the review of the contractor submittals.
∎ h. S/he needs to make sure that the vendors or contractors are compliant with the Practical Action and Donor policies, safety and security on all the project sites.
∎ Contribute to quality assurance and explore potentials regarding promotion of equipment
∎ a. Play key role for representing Practical Action both in national and international level on the knowledge management and dissemination works on different technologies.
∎ b. Maintaining and modifying equipment to ensure that it is safe, reliable and efficient for users
∎ c. Develop quality control criteria and safety guidelines and ensuring that all team members of pit emptier cooperatives, and waste workers cooperatives are aware and able to continue their task at municipalities level.
∎ d. Develop women friendly equipment for different level users and as per their needs.
∎ Provide technical assistance in development of knowledge material and dissemination.
∎ a. Develop and build prototypes and assess the performance and prepare comparative analysis for contextualize.
∎ b. Provide leading role on operation and maintenance training for pit emptying devices and transporters.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Experienced in working with equipment development, demonstration and promotion in Solid Waste and Sanitation Sector for Integrated and Sustainable Waste Management.
∎ Female candidates are encouraged to apply.
∎ Experience of analyzing of performance of devices, user feedback and community acceptance at least 5-7 years of experience in design, drawing, estimation and construction work.
∎ Experience in operating design related software and good documentation skill
∎ Good ability to work with a virtual cross-functional team.
∎ Willing and able to travel independently outside station.
Salary: Tk. 62543 (Monthly)
