∎ Name of the Project: Strengthening Emergency Preparedness and building infrastructure for Disaster Vulnerable Communities in Bangladesh (STEP & BuildIn) Project
∎ Project Summary: Strengthening Emergency Preparedness and building infrastructure for Disaster Vulnerable Communities in Bangladesh (STEP & BuildIn) Project is aiming to improve the life and livelihood status of the vulnerable people by focusing on (i) Strengthening knowledge, response and recovery capacity of different stakeholders (ii) Reducing the disaster risk through improving physical structure and providing improve adaptive services to the community and (iii) Reducing the vulnerability of the community people through providing improved and alternative livelihoods.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Role of this Position: Under the supervision of Project Manager, the Technical Officer (Engineering) will directly involve in implementation of planned construction activities of the working area to reduce the structural disaster risk of the community people and deliver the outputs timely. Assist the Technical Manager (Engineering) in designing, estimating, procuring, supervising, monitoring checking and developing necessary reports.
∎ Responsibilities of the Position and Duties Performed:
∎ Ensure the quality of the construction according to the design/plan and the quality of materials used are according to the specifications given tender document, when buildings are constructed by external construction companies or contractors.
∎ Assist in Preparing tender documents, in case the construction will be implemented through construction company or companies.
∎ Regular visit and follow up the construction activities, take necessary steps if any issue raised and coordinate with team to resolve quickly.
∎ Coordinate for collaboration with community based organization, local government institutions to initiate joint ventured construction activities for disaster risk reduction.
∎ Prepare progress report and completion report of the construction activities timely with necessary information data and pictures.
∎ Initiate the work to be done and regularly supervise the work being done and orient the Project Manager/ Technical Manager (Engineering) about the work and their involvement in the supervision and monitoring to ensure quality of work.
∎ Organize and participate community meeting to discuss construction plan and get community recommendation and consensus.
∎ Assist field organizer in identifying vulnerable households for the structural supports to reduce disaster risk.
∎ Supervision Given: NA.
∎ Supervision Received: Project Manager and Technical Manager (Engineering).
Additional Requirements:
∎ Age 25 to 45 years
∎ Other Requirement:
∎ Position requires at least two years of experience in similar type of position.
∎ Experiences in construction activities in disaster risk Climate Change Adaptation at local level, community development is desired.
∎ Ability to operate with independence, under pressure, to meet deadlines and commitments.
∎ Proven ability to work as part of a team, and as part of a wider network, is essential.
∎ The commitment and drive to achieve challenging goals; a problem-solving attitude is essential.
∎ Cultural sensitivity and ability to respect and work well with people from different backgrounds and disciplines.
∎ Excellent computer operation skills including AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, MS word, power point, email and internet browsing.
∎ Driving motorcycle with valid driving license.
∎ Willingness to stay and operate project at remote area.
∎ c. Age Limit: 25-45 Years.
∎ d. Physical Requirements: Physically and mentally sound with good health, smart, energetic, ability to work in all situation and environment.
Salary: Tk. 35000 - 40000 (Monthly)
